That's very nicely done and I wouldn't feel too bad about the wood filler, if it works, it' easier for you to do, and still gives the result you want then why ever not!. You could even try totally different fillers.. I'm thinking in particular about the various resins you can mix your own colour into, they have iridescent sparkly additives too that would look great on something like a butterfly.

I like the celtic knot look on the spoon too. That gives me all sorts of ideas! :)

I think they have come out very well indeed - beginner or not.

Well done Brian! :)

There is nothing to laugh about your work Brian, it is fantastic, very well done for first projects. I know some scrollers who have been at it a long time and they would dearly love to make things to that standard. If thats what you have made as your first attempt I would dearly love to see what you produce in six months time. Well done.

I think you are being too modest. Both items are very good and you should be proud of your work. I am looking forward to seeing your next piece.

There brilliant and I agree with other, your being to modest fella.

Wood filler, shows your thinking outside the box, you could mix some dye in and have these any colour you want, varnish over and POP POP they you go...

Very well cut out,I would have been very proud to have that for my first project.I think that Nick was meaning a Dremel not a Dexel.I certainly would't say butchering of the wood.

Brian.

Great work, what’s wrong with using wood filler, I have a large tub of it in my workshop.

I find filler essential when using oak, as I find that a perfectly sound piece of work will develop a split/crack overnight. My theory is that cutting the wood helps to relive stress that has built up during the wood drying process, hence the split/crack. I am no wood expert, so could be talking a load of c**p.

This splitting/cracking only happens with oak. :?:

I said in an earlier post that if your scroll saw work was to the same standard as your photography it would be outstanding, I feel I am not going to be wrong.

Take care.
