Am thinking of taking cycles abroad in Sept and intended to get the cycle carrier from Halfords wot fits onto the rear wheel on my Defender, but am not sure if I'm going to need a lighting board. Anyone with any views or advice....appreciated - Rob

If the bikes will obscure any lights or the number plate (which I believe is illegal though seemingly rarely enforced) then get a board.

Expensive when they do though. One of my customers was travelling down from Scotland and the police stopped him and gave him a fixed penalty of 60gbp as they couldn't see his number plates.

Cheers

my only comment is check how far the bikes spread on either side of the vehicle and make sure you put proper markers so you remember when driving around in a foreign country.

my experience suggests that the french police are certainly prepared to
find foreigners as heavily as they can, so check the travel rules too.

Guys - thanks for the advice, think I'll leave the bikes at home this year as I'm going to get a bike soon and the pennies won't run to a lightboard plus the garage cost of having a plug fitted to the wiring loom of the Landy - Rob
