Are you sure your pad is flat...?
If the outer edges of your pad are compressed or worn down, then that would possibly explain why the centre of your sanding disc is wearing out first....?

The sander, a 5" DeWalt RO hasn't done much work and there's a pad saver on it.

Is there anything caught between the pad saver and the sander plate in the centre?
Is the pad saver uniform thickness?

You need to show worn out abrasives from at least two other manufacturers that are not worn out in the centre to give it some traction.

Same abrasive doesn’t wear like that on any of my powered sanders or hand pads. More often edges go first due to clumsiness…

I haven't any others worn in the centre so it would have been pointless photographing them.
