A quick question can you change a 3 phase Ajax drill to a single-phase And if so how Alan

The search function is your friend; this has been thoroughly covered here, by those more qualified to comment than me... but the short and simple answer is yes, by either swapping the motor or adding an VFD.

Either fit a single phase motor of similar rating and speed or, if the existing motor is dual voltage (look at the nameplate), fit a Variable Frequency DRIVE (VFD or inverter) to convert 1ph 230V to 3ph 230V.
You may get more replies if you post in the Tools forum - there are a number of discussions there.
Look for the write-up by Bob Minchin (9fingers) on this website or on thewoodhaven2 website - it is very clear.

If possible, send pictures of the rating plate on the motor and if you can , remove the cover where the power feed is terminated on the motor and take a picture. These two things can give a lot of useful information and enable you to get more specific help.

Thanks for the replies I should have said I was asking for a friend I will pass all the information on and try to get some photos' thanks Alan
