added to the my previous issue, i cant help but think is it worth it? Inverting a 3p table saw seems like allot of hassle, I have heard it doesn't perform as good, and a decent inverter is pricey. I Have accepted the saw and band saw thinking maybe i could sell them on if I cant find a converter. But they not worth anything either. Add all this to the logistics of moving heavy machinery around, I cant help but think blowing £700 odd on the sip table saw might be a better garage workshop option. Hm?

I think I would investigate seriously the possibility of 3ph supply. Then you can directly compare the cost of that vs new motors/inverters/new table saw.

If you did get 3ph you would then have the pick of ebay bargains

3 phase can be pricey to install. It depends how far the electric company have to take the cable. I had a 10K quote to supply electric to some barns I was thinking or renting but that involved installing 5 poles.

Wadkin machinery is very good quality and far superoir in build and performance than a home workshop machine so I would cost up inverters or new motors and see how much that will cost. I would be suprised if it came to more than a new SIP saw.

Thanks people, I have not looked into getting 3phase to my house but I don't live near anything remotely industrial, id be suprised if there was a supply within 500' of my house, and i know unless its virtually running under your house your looking at thousands as people have to start excavating the street etc. I guess I really wanna know is if the saw will have as good of performance running through an invertor as it would through 3p. I found companies and people that can supply invertors. But I just not heard of anyone having 3p installed for less than a couple of grand.

Nev,

You will *probably* have three phase right outside your house, as the way things tend to work is each house is done off a different phase to spread the load out. That's why sometimes you can see roads with only a portion of the streetlights working or only a number of houses on a street affected by a power cut.

Once you know what HP your motor is you can price up an inverter. I have just bought a 1HP inverter for a cement mixer I put a three phase motor on. It cost around £120. I just checked the price for a 3HP one which was around £220. You'd also need to factor in a box to put it in and probably a new contactor/switches. That prices assumes that you can run the motors at 240V as I mentioned in the other post.

Hi,

The supply in the street is 3 phase. My neighbour had a 3ph supplu installed to his garage fo £900. That included the garage end temination in a switched box and the under the pavement termination to the supply.

He dug the trench himself from garage to pavement edge and backfilled it.

Alan
