hello folks

here's 3 pieces from today- I was messing about a bit playing with forms-generally having a nice day but by 2-0-clock my workshop was starting to get too hot so i called time.

Pau rosa box-3" tall by 1.75 wide

boxwood box-2.25" tall by 2" wide

Both of your little boxes are beautiful, the forms, colours and textures are lovely and I really like the little foot detail.

How on earth do you hollow a vessel this large through such a tiny hole? I can guess how it all works etc. but how do you see what your doing?

Cheers.

The hollow form is stunning George, i really like the texturing it could almost be ceramic.

What tool do you use to get that effect?

As for the boxes, as always they look great & are up to your usual high standard.

Cheers.

Doug.

TOO HOT....!!! you're kidding right..?

Me and the missus just spent the afternoon walking around Hilliers arboretum nr Romsey..... with macks on..!!

Thank you

the texture is done with the two tips of a bead forming tool and then bashed about a bit and wire brushed until you get the effect you see

How on earth do you hollow a vessel this large through such a tiny hole?

this particular one is quite a big hole from what I’m used to its 1.25" wide but I knew that at this depth I would need to get the larger Munroe in which needs a bigger hole. in answer to your question....practice

Can't fault your workmanship George. Of the boxes I prefer the mandarin one myself. The hollow form i, as always just right in all ways. One day I will do one. So far I seem to be able to do only small ones or ones with big holes so I can see where the tip of the tool is. Like you said practice......

George, I don't like that much that style of hollow forms, but that's my problem I reckon. Hollow vessels are not my thingy.
But what I like are the lidded boxes, they are really cute.
I recognize that it is just a matter of taste!!

All graet again George. :D
Too hot in the shop.Wait till summer gets here
I thought you were taking or took steps to cool things down in their :?:

Hello George, I like the hollow forms texture but I'm not sure if the height/size of the slope up to the opening works. I think it would look better if the main body of the form itself were a bit taller?

The Pau Rosa box is sweet 8)

Hi George

Lovely work. I was about to make some forms with this sort of texturing. :? What will I do.

I know I will have to put a lid on them and spray them with ready break.

Lovely boxes. Quality.

Thank you

I think the problem with my workshop paul is partly its size-and partlly its type of construction-there's only about 900 cubic feet of air which the lights and motors help to warm up then its also south facing and made of concrete so its slowly warms up then holds the heat all day. It was a airless muggy 26 degrees cent in there on sunday when i called time.
