I made this one a few years ago but as im moving out soon had to make one for myself- or steal this one

The top laquered section was supposed to be for slippers but its kind of a hoarding place for rubbish. The bottom section was also left long for welly boots to stand. At the time before the 'devonwoody inspired dog end rack' ( I was always amazed by all the things he made with relatively small pieces of wood) there was always bits of 2x1 oak off cuts destined for the fire. Since then rarely any wood gets burned and usually gets used for beads etc.

The arbortech made light work of removing the excess timber- last time I remember doing dodgy cuts on the bandsaw trying to speed things up

I wanted to make something better than the previous but things have changed. I've no oak to edge the shelves with unless I buy a bit and the carpet place that gave me some mat off cuts haven't got any spare.
Plus side, I think I've found a nicer cheap boot (buckle on the top) and carpet fitters are coming on Monday to fit living room carpet - I may have chosen the carpet.......possibly hoping some offcuts will look o.kish for this. The shelves are left over buffalo boards from decking out a flatbed trailer, I kinda like the agricultural finish on it, , just unsure how to tie it all in together.
The small blue boot was just an idea, but I don't think it works at all with the green boots.
Thoughts and suggestions most welcome. The original design replaced a horrible cheap flimsy pine argos one and at the time was quite an improvement. If I had endless pennies id probably mat all the shelves (not have a slipper lacquered one) and probably stain oak edging again. It'd be good if I could make it work without having to revert back to the old one :?

Definitely too much time/Red Bull/Robinsons/Coffee. Can't quite see how you do more stuff in a day than I do in a month  Also the variety of imagination is pretty brill 8)

Will this rack also have knife storage and places to hang cans of Strongbow? A place to stick a torch is always quite handy by outside doors

+1 on the above, when do you sleep?

" I may have chosen the carpet.......possibly hoping some offcuts will look o.kish for this."

Glad I'm not the only one that does things like that

Sleepings cheating :D
I've kind of got another idea for the torch

This is what im greeted to everytime I sit down for lunch at work. Im fairly limited for drawer space in the new place so figured a utensil holder near the door which has everything in, torch, screwdriver pizza slice and all the other guff which should be kept somewhere handy would be helpful- it took ages finding everything id ever need in a kitchen so I can allow space for it :D you might laugh at the extendable back scratch, but several people have borrowed it to have a little scratch- yummy :| I'd like to make it in the shape of an upright swiss army knife which is kind of a development from the 'power tool tree' I made a while back

The blokes fitted the carpet yesterday and they did a really tidy job fitting it around all the nooks and crannies. I'll chuck some offcuts on bootrack later to see what it might look like- looks like a ploughed field in the living room but might be o.k for the rack
As much as I'd like to start on the utensil holder to make some space to eat, I think my workmate may cut off my goolies if I start something else.......unless I secretly hide it from him

I tried the offcuts of carpet and it looked pants so bit the bullet and went to carpet shop. 2 x1.3 metres was 19 quid which I didn't think was too bad.
I edged it like before and just shot some pins in with the nailgun. I messed up the brummers colour for the pinholes so they kind of stick out like a sore thumb :p :)

I got the longest bit stuck on...

And am gradually working my way up. Just had my toast ham and beans for tea so will hopefully get the rest screwed together in a bit- providing I don't have a little nap

That's a saying I've not heard before  I've finished the boot rack but its not great to be honest. When I was using the orbital last ( on lego man arms) I switched the 120 grit to 80  I forgot i changed it and only noticed when i started staining it and saw lots of little swirls

I've left the top shelf free standing cause I kinda think it looks better without. Its another of my started projects thats finally finished so its kind of a result ;)

I think I kind of like it in a modernist conceptual artist sort of way. I still think it should have a tailors dummy hand though, for the torch and the keys to a car you no longer own.
