I made this one a few years ago but as im moving out soon had to make one for myself- or steal this one
The top laquered section was supposed to be for slippers but its kind of a hoarding place for rubbish. The bottom section was also left long for welly boots to stand. At the time before the 'devonwoody inspired dog end rack' ( I was always amazed by all the things he made with relatively small pieces of wood) there was always bits of 2x1 oak off cuts destined for the fire. Since then rarely any wood gets burned and usually gets used for beads etc.
The arbortech made light work of removing the excess timber- last time I remember doing dodgy cuts on the bandsaw trying to speed things up
I wanted to make something better than the previous but things have changed. I've no oak to edge the shelves with unless I buy a bit and the carpet place that gave me some mat off cuts haven't got any spare.
Plus side, I think I've found a nicer cheap boot (buckle on the top) and carpet fitters are coming on Monday to fit living room carpet - I may have chosen the carpet.......possibly hoping some offcuts will look o.kish for this. The shelves are left over buffalo boards from decking out a flatbed trailer, I kinda like the agricultural finish on it, , just unsure how to tie it all in together.
The small blue boot was just an idea, but I don't think it works at all with the green boots.
Thoughts and suggestions most welcome. The original design replaced a horrible cheap flimsy pine argos one and at the time was quite an improvement. If I had endless pennies id probably mat all the shelves (not have a slipper lacquered one) and probably stain oak edging again. It'd be good if I could make it work without having to revert back to the old one :?
