I'm sure there has been plenty of posts like this . So I hope no one minds another.
I'd like to start turning. So I'm wondering if anyone uses one of the lathes on my maybe list. Or can offer any better options. I haven't really set a budget, but it's a hobby so I do t need anything to over the top. But on the other hand don't want to get something that I may need to upgrade from.
I've also got to factor in money for a chuck and chisels.
The Nova is my favourite at the moment. But that's mainly because its the only one I've actually seen and touched. The charnwood is in 2nd place. I would prefer variable speed.
I'll add screenshots of my list. As I'm not sure if I can post links.
Thanks in advance. 👍

I've got the Record Power lathe you picture - and I've been very happy with it. I've had it for quite a few years.

A bit more expensive but these are very good. Lots of professionals use them for demo’s. It has a decent 350mm swing and you can get a bed extension for it. It also has the almost standard now M33 x 3.5 spindle thread.

Whatever you choose try and pick one with a M33 x 3.5 thread as if/when you upgrade any chucks you buy will likely fit.

The Nova looks reasonable for the money as well.
