Clocking on
Yes, another electrical conundrum.
I recently attempted to use my old Al-ko Garden Shredder and after a couple of attempts to switch it on, it went completely dead.
I concluded that the most likely cause was a defunct capacitor so I purchased a new one to the right spec. I also decided to replace the main switch, which incorporated an overload cutout, with a new toggle switch and a separate overload/manual reset switch.
A quick bench test of the new components and the motor seemed to indicate all was well so I proceeded to reassemble the shredder. A few more start/stop operations and it was apparent that the direction of rotation was not being controlled. However the direction did seem to related to the starting position of the rotor. Usually it would start rotating smoothly but sometimes it would do a little bounce and head off in the opposite direction.
Any thoughts? Is the capacitor doing its job?
