Im looking for a router with 1/4 collet for light use & a random orbital sander, possibly secondhand, can anyone give a relative novice advice on which to buy. I would like to have a go at making small items of furniture & wondered what to buy without breaking the bank, thanks

You don't mention what you want to use it for Tony? I would recommend lookng for the
trend T4 or one of the Bosch equivalents I think it may be the 500 or 600. This is the low end hobby use. If you need something a little bigger then go for an Elu 96E if you can find one or a DeWalt 615, Small Makita or even the Trend T5. Would be more helpful if you stated your intended use for it? HTHL.

I would like to do any small projects to build up experience and hope eventually to make easy furniture projects , boxes etc. Just had a look at Ron Foxes book & he recommends a Perles OF808 as a good starter router , but i cant find any uk supplier. Thanks for the advice & i will take a look at what you are recommending

i have a couple of elu mof 96's and they are a great little machine. they dont make them now but the trend t5, dewalt 613 are based on them. i may sell you one if your interested. or try ebay for second hand ones.

i use the metabo r,o,sander highly recommend that too.

Greggy is correct in the choice of routers. I would go for one of the De Walt, Elu, or Trend T5 routers as it will be more useful for your furniture making. I also agree with his choice of ROS I too have one of the Metabo SX450 and have found it is bullet proof, not to mention a fine sander.
