£10 of petrol!!!

Hi,

Do you think this is where all the petrol came out? and soaked in to my carpet tiles turning all the bitumen in to slippy sticky goo!

Its drying out now but I have some stains on the wood and MDF stacked in the garage

Hi,

Its a Kawasaki ZXR750J1 fuel tap. I had to buy 1 meter of pipe to replace the 100mm that had split :x

Pete, I'm amazed that Kawasaki don't use steel reinforced fuel hose. Might be worth checking at a motor factor for an alternative. I had a car catch fire many years ago (Lotus Mk.6) due to exactly the same problem.

Hi,

Motorbikes all use the same black hoses I haven't had any problems with any other bikes hoses. Its is a 90 deg bend on a 18 year old bike and I have had the tank on and off loads of times, just old age I guess.

Thats the problem when you get a Kwack in the pipe,sorry couldn't resist.

Have you had the bike from new? had a few kwackers in my time,last one being a ZZR 1100 lovely bike.

I haven't had it from new I think about 12-13 years, I have had mostly Kawasakis Z200 KH250 x2 Z650 GPZ1100 GPX1000RX then the ZXR750.
ZZR1100 are very nice when I had my GPZ100RX I always fancied one, but the ZXR is so good in corners it makes up for the lack of speed.

It was a ringer when I bought it but a couple of years ago I got a frame and log book from Ebay for £32 and swaped everything over so now I can insure it fully comp, and its a year younger!!!

I loved my Zed 900 ... in fact its the reason I run XJR13's now ... look very similar !

Wish I'd kept the Zed ... be worth a bob or two today ! :wink:

18 yrs out of the pipe isn't too bad :lol: ... you'll have changed the brake lines once or twice in that time, I'll bet

I have a 1978 Z650SR that a mate imported from Utah, where it was a 'Rat bike', and restored. It won 'Best Japanese Restoration' at an Irish bike show so he must have known what he was at. It is a lovely bike to ride and handles like a 125.

Sadly, it is sitting under covers because I can't risk riding it, or rather, coming off it, because my spine is in terrible shape. If I were single I would take the chance but I cannot risk my wife's quality of life.

I had petrol pouring out of the fuel hose on my Cobra, no signs of any damage, had just become porous with age and use, perhaps a little brittle around the join too.

A lake of petrol under your car in the garage surrounded by your woodworking gear, a lot of wood and your expensive mountain bikes is enough to make your bum clench and do some very fast mopping up. I also had to buy a metre of hose to fix it - though at least I needed a longer length than you

I spent much of the weekend working on the bike, the pipe was a quick fix but I had new brake lines to fit, the old ones had alloy nuts that had started to crack caused by corrosion inside. It took ages to bleed the system I ended up blowing fluid through the lines using a latex glove and a pipe held over the reservoir, then I couldn't get them to run right I went from a 3 line system to a two. I ended up making a clamp block to hold them (a fine blade in the band saw make short work of 12mm aluminium),

Then spent some time cutting off the pertol soaked bits of MDF the wood seems to be fine, and the carpet tiles are settling down but I wil have to look for some more.

To be honest I think you've done well to get it to last that long.

In my experience petrol & rubber aren't he best combi over time.

Although it looks from the photo as though the hose has to put up with a lot of strain if it's bending at what looks like 90% straight from the rigid plastic connector tube. I wonder if the original had a preformed bend in it or Kawa put one on their later versions of the bike.
