How easy is it to fit a kitchen?

If DIY is attempted:- Don't drill handle mounting holes until the doors are fitted to the units. Don't put the units too far back from the front of the worktop, you will lose effective access to the draws. done both too often ***** geoff

    Blade length?

Drifting through my, Oh too many computer files, I came across this. Showing the work of conservation on/of a Boule cabinet. Of particular interest is a brief glimpse of a chevalet in action at around 3m 30s. geoff

    Blade length?

The American School of marquetry, https://americanschooloffrenchmarquetry.com/WPASFM/ , may be of interest. Especially the images which include, " "chevalet de marqueterie” (Marquetry Easel for Painting in Wood), or cutting horse". Plans seem to be available, but then you have some. The frame...

It's not every day (for Kittyhawk)

My Dad was in North Africa too, on the ground. He told me of taking up smoking to keep flies away from his food. Then betting, with cigs, on the outcome of a match to see who could catch the most flies during a meal. Always knowing which way to go as there would be some bloke in front playing...

It's not every day (for Kittyhawk)

Strange to think just how many "ordinary" folk were around in my youth who just never spoke of their war. I was lucky enough to learn that I guy I had been working with for at least eight years had been awarded the VC for his part in a mini-sub raid. I didn't like asking but he seemd to want to...

It's not every day (for Kittyhawk)

Jameshow has it, above, the factory roof was designed not to cast shadows. At no time of day, or year, did the ridges cast shadows. This meant that reconnaissance photographs saw the roof as flat, as in a field. Now it would be unlikely that a field of such a size would not have sheep etc...

It's not every day (for Kittyhawk)

When I was a nipper, I lived on the flight path of RAF Lindholme. One day a year there used to be an 'Open' day, which I went to more than once with the local Scouts later on, it was great fun watching the older planes. Newer ones tended to be heard but rarely seen due to speed and altitude of...

    Hinges in mdf

The problem is one of spreading the load in the MDF. For cupboards perhaps a good solution is to set a softwood strip into the edge of the MDF, the hinge screws then have something to bite into. Rout a suitable groove along the edge and either glue into this a softwood strip, or use it to house...

    Hand mitre saw blades

This sounds as if it is going to be a recurring problem. Is it possible to change the frame to accept a blade length which is easier to get hold of? geoff

    Royal Mail tracker...

Had notification of a delivered parcel left with a neighbour the other day. Not expecting anything, and not knowing which neighbour it had been left with, we checked the tracking number. That was not recognised. The following day we had a word with the postman. He checked and found the parcel...

How not to drill a pen blank or turning your jacobs chuck into a hammer!

We didn't get the gloved hand bit. Standard was nothing on the arms below the elbows, nothing. That and tie tucked in the shirt, i.e. no loose clothing. Of course there was "If the chuck starts spinning do not withdraw the quill, or tailstock, at least until the lathe stops spinning." geoff
