Which is why I recommended the manfrotto monopod further up. It extends way up and is taller than me when fully extended. It also has a small base that adds stability. Whatever you decide on, don't forget that the mount is often considered to be more important than the OTA. If it is flimsy and...

    Telescopes

One thing to be wary of with Newtonian reflectors (the mirror is at the back and the eyepiece towards the front) is that unless you enjoy tinkering, they can be very frustrating. The collimation of the mirrors is vital and Newt's have a tendency to go out of collimation just from being sneezed...

    Telescopes

Well I would consider it to be a camera strapped to a lens. To be fair to it, it should probably be referred to as an astrograph and one that has ease of portability and some software that allows stacking of pictures to achieve some impressive results. Its automation capabilities and compact...

    Telescopes

These are okay but you have to remember that it is just a camera. You can only take photographs with it. It isn't a very high resolution sensor either. It uses the IMX462 which is only 2MP and you have a very narrow field of view so limited to planets and smaller planetary nebula. There are no...

    Sharpening conspiracy!

Never tasted it and the existence of such things as cod worm means that I never will.

    Telescopes

I assume that you are interested in visual astronomy rather than astrophotography. Unfortunately, with your budget, you are going to really struggle to find anything that will give you any decent views. Have a look here: https://www.firstlightoptics.com/beginner-telescopes.html If you buy a...

    Sharpening conspiracy!

It's a subtle point, but as written, it isn't very precise and can result in misinterpretation of the intended meaning. It could be interpreted as him saying that he doesn't care if it ends up sharp which implies that he also wouldn't care too much about it having a state of bluntness. Now if it...

    Sharpening conspiracy!

The point, that you seem to have missed, is that the lack of punctuation, even if our ancestors did perfectly well without it, gives your sentence a meaning that you obviously didn't intend.

    Sharpening conspiracy!

I think the point is that the knife is sharp after whatever it is you do to it so I'd ******* care. ;)

    More a pointless one usually.

Do you get a free argument with it? "Would you like the five minute argument or the full half hour?"

I always wondered what the point of the fish knife is. Would never have thought of using it for personal defense.

Blimey, I just had a look at eBay's policy. Why on Earth are Swiss army knives banned? Also Sharp kitchen knives , does that mean you can sell blunt ones?

Turning firewood into - more firewood.

I've sone some woodturning although my lathe has been a bit inactive for quite some time. However, one of the most important things I learnt was that effective, fast, repeatable sharpening is critical. Hand sharpening is great for bench tools but for woodturning, you will really need to use some...

Are these Marple chisels worth £50?

I just didn't know any better at the time.

Are these Marple chisels worth £50?

I bought a set of three of this sort from a market stall way back when I first got into turning. Never used them, bought longer and meatier ones instead.

Collection of 3d printing files relevant for woodworking

Many thanks, I think it may be the same one I tried printing but couldn't get it to seal properly. I always assumed I had done something wrong with how I printed it so I think I'll have another look as I do really like that design.

Did you design it yourself or grab it from one of the online sites? If the latter, would you be able to point me to the one you used?

    Veritas Mk2 Honing Guide - Issues :(

I have one of them. I bought it out of interest rather than to use and have never actually used it. I do intend to give it a whirl one day.
