Can I make all usual structures with just wood from my small woodland?

Think on this: Neolithic, bronze age, and iron age people would not have survived in terms of creating shelter and making the utensils, materials and tools necessary for life from one acre of scraggy boggy woodland. They would have roamed much further to gather the necessary materials.

I'm happy with this one. 'Beginner' size - about 5" diameter. From a lump of seasoned cherry log destined for burning. A bit of BLO on it and then a mild shellacing for pudding. I've only relatively recently started turning, and a friend of my better half has been giving me earache about how...

    Sharpening

I think you'll find those are actually diamond wheels. The heading may say CBN, but the small print says 'diamond'. Rather like I bought some supposed tungsten carbide rods recently, that were very attractively priced, to find them stamped 'HSS' when I received them... I have however...

    Food safe ca glue

I think the OP is hitting at the fact vinegar likely to be in contact with the finish, and that vinegar degrades CA glue (acetic acid is a CA glue remover). I have no answer for the OP, but maybe others do with this in mind...

    Axminster AWVSL1000 Lathe Maintenance

I don't own one, but I do know that WD-40 isn't a lubricant! And motors shouldn't have lubricant sprayed in them... The manual cally60 has linked to will help you.

What has happened to my oak post?

Not entirely on subject, but sort of: This is a group of pics of a wasp building a nest on the OSB on the inside of my shed roof. Persistent little bugger. Taken over the course of a couple of hours.

Just starting out on this journey. It's not fully sanded or finished yet - waiting until tomorrow for more abrasives. This is actually from the 12"x3/4" wide pine board that my lathe was mounted on when I picked it up. I remounted the lathe on my shed bench. Past two platters I made from it are...

    Question: Charnwood Nexus 3 chuck?

Reporting back: I went with the Viper 3, and kit jaw set, and also have a Vicmarc shark jaw that fits perfectly on it. I have no other 4-jaw scroll chucks to compare it to, but am happy with it. What I do know is that the Vicmarc jaws fit perfectly on it. And I am loving the 35mm jaw travel...

    Question: Charnwood Nexus 3 chuck?

Bumping this up with another question: Charnwood Viper3 jaws are compatible with Vicmarc VM100 chuck -with the Charnwood V3JS screw set. Working with engineered things (electrician) I know that the opposite compatibility doesn't always happen. Does anyone know if Vicmarc jaws can be used on the...

    Question: Charnwood Nexus 3 chuck?

Thanks. I'm on their 'notify me' when available list for the 3/4" insert, so they are an option for me. I guess another manufacturer's accessories such as spur and steb centres would fit into the jaw carriers?

    Question: Charnwood Nexus 3 chuck?

Thanks for that comment. That helps explain the rusty jaws on some used eBay and FB marketplace offerings. Good steel blends aren't a cheap option for manufacturers. Noted.

    Question: Charnwood Nexus 3 chuck?

I'm almost a couple of months in with woodturning. I bought a long bed Record Power No 3 (CL3) with three chucks and a wide spread of gouges, scrapers and skews. And I'm really enjoying the journey. The chucks I received, while working fine and having a good range of jaws, are the older...
