    Robinson ET/E Saw

really lovely. Have you got the double mitres for any of yours? Scotty

    Rodding it out.

Yes it is indeed a lot of time, probably the best past of 3 weeks to make the woodwork and I’ll be about 3/4 days on the metal work. The salient detail about this type of project, is the ‘eggs all in one basket’ type of machining. What I mean by that is if you take the lattice work for an...

    Rodding it out.

Thank you for that. I appreciate your interest and your kind words. There is lots and lots of interesting work involved in a job like this. Loads of machines get used, lots of jigs, various templates, tools and power tools aplenty. Scotty

    Favourite hand plane and why

No. 78, what an epic bit of kit. You can also pick them up for chicken feed and cut the front off for a stubby version. Scotty

    Rodding it out.

Thanks for that. Yeah, it is a lot of hours, about 10 to draw the rod and get the templates out, and what you see there on the bench in wood is about 7 days work so far. Still a lot of work on it yet, once I’ve biscuit jointed the curves and screwed the lattice work together, I’ll get out a...

    Rodding it out.

Thanks Johnny, I get all my templates out by hand, when I am happy they are good, i run multiples out on the follower/bearing, particularly on multipliers like this to check it’s doesn’t shrink or grow along the rod. When I’m happy I take the template to spindle out all the stock. This is an...

    Rodding it out.

The most enjoyable work. Tapered ecliptical curves trammelled, templated on the band and spoke shaved to suit the rod, when it all lays on the lines it’s fantastic. The Rod dictates all. Scotty

    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

Thank you. It’s a lovely machine to own and use. It just so happened I had a bridge to make and those oak beams and the completion of the planer that could machine them in one were on a collision course with one another. It was a spectacular collision I must say. Scotty

    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

Yeah no problem, I used Paragon paints machine enamel paint. Stripped back to bare metal (mostly) and primed all with the same system. If you go identical to mine you’ll need RAL 7011 iron grey (main colour) and Bright red enamel. Mine is all Gloss, which is easier to keep clean and a bit...

Wood burning stoves tested to destruction

Never seen anything like this. I would seriously consider one of these in my upcoming workshop. Free firewood in unimaginable abundance is one of the best perks of my work. We heat the entire house from the stove and cook on it regularly. Can’t be beaten in my book

    Building Bridges

The bridge is all but finished now, i apologise for the lack of photos/information towards the end of the thread, its quite busy at the moment. Here was the dry run back at the yard, M16 steel bar drilled straight through the lot (stainless steel to prevent the oak from devouring it in 5...

Haha, yeah there is Fred. Walk over it and hope that is stays in one piece. If that goes well, then all is well so to speak

    Building Bridges

Update on the bridge, just been plodding on with it really. A bit too busy right now so I am on it then off it then on it again sort of style. However progress is being made With all of the components out, it is that time to lay it out on the rod, mark it, machine it, repeat. Lots of work...

    Building Bridges

This post is all about the two main beams. You’ve seen them marked off from the template, I now need to cut them out. The throat on the bandsaw is a tiny 8”, and I want to keep my waste wood as wide as possible to use for my post caps, hence using the chainsaw to get within an 1” of the cut...

    Building Bridges

I have heard quite a bit about these spiral head cutters, they seem to be the way to go these days. I’m still rocking a two knife HSS set up, it all works though! Thanks for the interest Scotty

    Building Bridges

The planer left has left an incredible finish on the oak, being green it always machines that little bit cleaner and smoother than if it were dry, but it’s still superb even under those circumstances. It’s the nature of the beast when it comes to solid curved work, but the offcuts will come in...
