    New workshop build

Hi Terrytpot, you wouldn’t remember which door you went for in the end can you? I’ve been looking for a steel door for a while but it’s good to have a recommendation. They look really good. Looking at the weight of some of them I’ll have to get my brother involved to help with install! Cheers Pete

    New workshop build

Looking good Col! Also good to see you are prioritising getting the garage sorted before the house 😂

    On site planer

Hi jjames By site do you mean building site or peoples homes? I’ve got an electra beckum hc260 on a wheeled base which might work if you have a van with some sort of access ramp and a hard standing area you can wheel it on when it’s not in the van. Cheers Pete

    Wanted Domino DF500

Thanks orangefive, I saw that but I thought 2010 was a bit older than what I was after, I’m still newish to the woodworking game so didn’t even realise the domino have been around for that long! Cheers Pete

    Wanted Steel straight edge

Thanks Niall That sounds like the kind of thing I’m after but where would I get something like that from? My main use for it will be to use it on the back of my 1.4m track when ripping full length sheet goods then slide the track along the edge of the straight edge to complete the remainder...

    Wanted Steel straight edge

Hi sideways yes I’m after steel rather than ali. I’ve just looked at Maun and they also look good. When you compare the thickness of the edge compared to veritas, the veritas ones actually don’t look bad value for money (Maun are 3mm ish and Veritas one is 10mm). Maybe I shouldn’t have been...

    Wanted Steel straight edge

Thanks spectric, they look good and I’ve got other benchdogs stuff that I’m impressed with. They look like they are aluminium though so was looking for something with a bit more heft.

    Wanted Steel straight edge

Hi Has anyone got a steel straight edge they no longer use and would like to sell to me? I’ve looked at the veritas ones but the 36” is close to £100! Cheers Pete

Advice drilling 32mm holes in 80mm joists

Hi Jon A 32mm flat wood bit should do the trick. I guess it doesn’t have to be neat (there will be breakout where the bit exits). Cheers Pete

110 volt tools pros and cons

Thanks for the replies everyone. Sounds like I’ll be getting myself the 110v version 😊 Cheers Pete

110 volt tools pros and cons

Evening everyone I’ve never used a 110 volt tool so have no experience of using them but could any of you please let me know of any pros and cons vs 240v counterparts? The main one I can think of is the need for a transformer and the weight of the transformer which for me personally wouldn’t...

    Simple Burglar Alarm for Workshop

Hi joe Could you possibly modify the door so it opens outwards rather than inwards? Harder to break in that way. If it’s a wooden framed door have you got some big concrete screws going into the brickwork/blockwork? Just chucking some additional ideas out there. Cheers Pete

    Wanted Domino DF500

Anyone got one they want to sell me? Col1 was selling one a while ago but due to my dithering it got away from me. Cheers Pete

Powertool World - any experiences of this online retailer??

They’re good, it’s a purely online shop but they were really good when I needed some track saw tracks urgently and they let me pop into the warehouse to collect after ordering online.

    Festool Vecturo

Evening everyone Have any of you got or used one of the above (either in battery or 240v guise?). I’ve been offered one second hand for just over £200 and it looks in really good nick. Just wondering if it’s worth it or should I just plump for a new makita/bosch/dewalt which are around £70-£100...

Securing brace on a ledge and brace door

Thanks triton, I’d never heard of a birds mouth joint so that’s something new for me to look in to 😀

Securing brace on a ledge and brace door

Thanks john For my ignorance, why do you use only one screw per board? Did you put the screws in the rear like agent zed did? And why do you have to line the screws up in the rails and braces? Is that to allow for movement? My door is going to be primed and glossed so guessing this is more if...

Securing brace on a ledge and brace door

Hi everyone as the title suggests really, how do you secure the brace on a ledge and brace door. I’ll be making it a tight fit so it will need lightly tapping into place with a mallet. The front of the door will be simply boarded with lengths of redwood timber which will be nail gunned to the...
