Post a photo of the last thing you made

Bandsaw reindeer - a chunk of leftover Lime with Elm antlers and hooves. Nice to produce something in a couple of hours rather than months!

Yes - wedged all 3 legs but that was one of my mistakes. Cut the slot for the wedge in the wrong orientation for the first back leg and had to repeat it on the other to match! Thankfully it didn’t split the seat.

Finished up a perch stool I’ve been working on for a couple of months. Elm seat, Poplar legs (they were going to be painted but I couldn’t settle on a colour!!). The seat outline was cut on the bandsaw, everything else done by hand. A few errors along the way but we live and learn.

For Sale Rider No.5 Jack Plane

Was in store today - they’re dropping the ‘Rider’ brand and renaming them ‘Workshop’ it seems.

Best way to create thin strips?

That sounds good. Let me know when you’re back - it’s going to be a while before I’m ready for them anyway. I might be able to help with SUP plans - I’ll check when I’m next on the proper computer.

Best way to create thin strips?

I’m just outside Newcastle. Could be willing to travel a bit for freebies though 😂

Best way to create thin strips?

Nothing so fancy! Building a wooden surfboard. Should probably clarify - the strips will form the deck over an internal ply frame. As such a little twist won’t matter as it will all be glued and clamped onto the curved form. The edges will be chamfered as required to follow the curve as the...

Best way to create thin strips?

I’m embarking on a project that requires around 30 strips of 50x6mm - 3m long. I’m normally a hand tool guy but not this time! I have a small bandsaw (the Aldi special) but nothing else powered other than a drill and sander. As sawn boards are around 10% of the cost of buying strips I’m...

    Luban Chinese Block Plane

Sorry but this reads as a borderline racist comment about a company that I am sure you know very little about. Some of the best quality manufactured products in the world currently come out of China, quite possibly including many of the devices we are all using to interact with this forum...

Danish Paper Cord. Not the easiest stuff to find in smallish quantities but it looks nice and was easy to work with.

Danish stool following the Richard Maguire video series. Start to finish hand tools - local Elm finished with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil. Lots of new stuff for me - curved rails, angled mortise and tenons not to mention the seat weaving (and it may take a week for my hands to feel normal again!)

PolyX (Hard Wax Oil) on Elm

Thanks both - those look very nice. It's been a busy week so I never made it last weekend but fingers crossed for tomorrow and getting it on at the weekend.

PolyX (Hard Wax Oil) on Elm

Does anyone have before/after photos of Osmo PolyX or similar (Fiddes perhaps) applied to Elm? I've got a piece I'm hoping to finish this weekend - can get to Axminster tomorrow and was thinking PolyX but would be interested to get an idea of how dark it might go. I want it done before...

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

This years is definitely a Scheppach - Aldi gave me the warranty details as [email protected] Not convinced they are seconds either - the different door colour suggests they were made specifically for Aldi and Amazon reviews of the Scheppach model show the same 'bent base' issue there...

Is that the M42 1/2" or have you tried the 1/2" Premium blade on it?

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

I've seen a couple of suggestions for the Metabo BAS 261 in this thread - a saw that is lower powered, with less capacity, than the Aldi model - at a significantly higher price? The reality is any bandsaw at this kind of price range is going to have limitations and flaws - outright damage is...

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

Thanks. Those are exactly what I was hoping for. My blade looks like it runs in a similar position - small amount of drift but it gives me some confidence it’s the setup or the blade and not something more fundamental with the machine.

Any chance of a pic of the blade position on the wheel top and bottom and where it passes through the table? I've managed to get mine cutting 'ok' but it feels like I've pushed the adjustment as far as I can - would be good to know if yours is similar of if I've got other issues before I decide...

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

I’ve spent more time tonight trying to get things working. Ended up backing the tension off a lot and taking the guides completely out of the way. Got it cutting almost straight now - an odd 1mm drift towards the fence over the first 5mm or so then straight from that point on. Guides might help...

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

It doesnt look like you've put in the bolt at the front of the slot in the table? That helps pull them up to the same level. Worth doing (if you haven't already) to see what difference it makes.
