    Is this scots pine?

.....another for Pitch Pine. The smell when cut is quite distinctive. Otherwise Douggie Fir ....again a distinctive smell when cut & less dense. You could possibly weigh & check density though smell should do it. Good Pitch Pine is a bit precious!

    Strange Wine?!

I hope you won't mind me saying it Fitzroy, but I hear that there is a lot that is overpriced across in Aberdeen!

Pine knots, Osmo, sealer, paint conundrum

Looks great. Nice to see tenements cared for in that way. If you have patience the'piney look' should develop a deeper warm glow from the sunlight...in a year or 2. It would be a pity to paint. Knots can be a problem...especially in a warm window. Personally I would just seal the wood & enjoy...

I never thought that I'd say this but ...

Yes ... I know it is rather simplistic but it makes a point & that is why I appreciate it. I am concerned that we are continually being told, especially by some newspaper & other sections of the media & politicians who we are to like & who to hate.....without really examining the evidence...

    US Election November 5th

I find it difficult to understand how anyone who has heard the debate, especially the 'eating cats' bit could ever feel that this person should be inflicted on the rest of the 'free world'. You do not like her 'cackling' but I would suggest Harris has a rather better grip on reality than Trump...

New road tax charging rules wont just affect EV OR just new vehicles, its retrospectively changes your tax band

Deema, I am always impressed by your knowledge of practical matters but when it comes to some other information then I have no idea where it comes from. We live in the distant Highlands & have put in an EV charger for visitors. I have asked users how far they have come & if they have had...

New road tax charging rules wont just affect EV OR just new vehicles, its retrospectively changes your tax band

I am sorry you did not get the government that you wanted Deema...... I disagree that it is 'totally despised'. Given the truly awful state of the health, service defence, judicial and prison service, general infrastructure....& so on... it was inevitable that unp[easant decisions that had been...

Is this getting a bit out of hand? - RSV jabs

The main reasons, as I can see, for providing this voluntary, free vaccine is to reduce the debilitating effects of this disease, especially in the very young & older suffers, & reduce the imact on the NHS. As this is voluntary I cannot see any objections. You seem to question the use of the...

How is your weather and have you experienced any summer yet ?

Best weather in May - early June. Has been cold wet & windy ever since. Some summer gales at 50mph.... This has meant using the wood burning stove in August and an increasing list of outside jobs to complete before winter. Just managed to get sheep sheared, but no chance of hay. I pity the poor...

Potential sites for new mega-solar farms

You seem to forget the annexation of Georgia.....as well as Salisbury & a number of successful .....& non successful extrajudicial executions in other countries. Not provocation by Nato......but you may think differently......

    House building

There is also the issue of food security. As it will become more difficult/costly to import food it is crucial to retain as much good farm land as possible putting an additional constraint on housing construction. There would seem to be not enough land for the population we seem to have/need.

    US Election November 5th

...Thought it was Abraham... I am not too sure that if a Iraqi turned up (as that was the area where he was born) with his family & said that his God had given him this area of land that it would be a sound basis for a future country..... but then there are a lot worse.....

    US Election November 5th

......not too sure who the 'we' refers to but I find it difficult to see how you arrive at the idea that we are resposible for a million European deaths. ....& why would we want to increase the birth rate? We do not have the land, food, resources to cope with the population we have. I suspect...

    US Election November 5th

It has hardly been a one way process. Think West bank incursions, detention of thousands without trial....... Isreal frequently feels the need to over react, recently because of pressure from the right wing. This results in the deaths of many innocent civilians and this perpetuates the...

Suitable oil for a Viceroy Sharpedge

I too lament the passing of those old, cluttered '2 Ronnies' hardware shops and go in whenever I find one. Av-gas can also be used. We had some 50 gallon drums left after a helicopter had been working nearby. Not only did it help with honing but it also ran old TVO Fergie tractors.

Suitable oil for a Viceroy Sharpedge

Still use it Phil.....& have done for some 50 years. It seems fine tho I use 30 oil - 70 paraffin....ish.

Gorilla glue doesn't seem very good

For shoes & boot sole repairs I use best grade Marine PU mastic. Need to clean surfaces with acetone first. Drawback is a tube will probably cost more than boot is worth.... but if you have some in the workshop.......
