    Another Ban on the way?

The whole Gas thing for heating is completly crazy, complex gas boilers heating water to be pumped around houses, installation costs of £1000s servicing and a lifespan of about 10yrs or so,,,electric is definatly more sensible, electric heaters cost very little to buy, no servicing and when they...

Hasnt the boiler has been made accessable, move a unit on wheels and lift out the bit of worktop,,,mind you shifting the cooker might be a step too far?? However, at the moment you dont know what the old boiler is, it could even be a reasonably modern floor standing version, why not have a...

When Im drilling into a plasterboard wall where I think pipes or cables might be I take it very gently and only just break through, then I poke about to make sure there is nothing in my way before going any further.

How to judge quality of SDS drill bits?

Ive not used them on tiles but Bosch Blue masonary drils are way better than any of my other drills, even a set of brand new Makita SDS drills struggled on some very hard brick but the Bosch drills were are delight to use. When you look at them they are the 4 point design and look more like a...

Gorilla glue doesn't seem very good

Ive bought Gorrilla foaming glue once to mend a broken dining chair and its still fine after 5 or 6 years, the rest went thick in the bottle but still works just fine if the softer stuff underneath is dug out, I quite like it but I dont think I would buy it unless I was looking for somthing...

Extension / electric cable - the rubbery stuff?

I thought the “Artic cable” in both blue and yellow (110v) was for site work where it could be seen, and of course the Blue is used for caravan hook ups for the same reason. The old stuff, say 20yrs ago was indeed very rubbery and flexable but of late Ive been very disapointed, esp the screwfix...

On allowing for expansion on a table top.

Hi, I know its not the most exciting subject but its one that does seem to come up every now and again, so I thought I would share a cople of photos I took of an old pine tabletop and how a company in Leeds in about 1940 dealt with it. Its a little folding table and the top is made of 4 light...

    Biscuit jointer

Ive no knowledge of the Lamello, but it looks like a regular biscuit jointer to me(?) and if so it wouldnt be the tool I would reach for if I was making your cot for two reasons, first the biscuits do not go very deep into the wood and as I recall our old cot took quite a bashing from the kids...

Is it worth buying premium tools if you don't use them enough ? Metabo grinder.

Recently bought a corded Hikoki (Hoki-Koki!) which although cheap seems to be a good little grinder and which came in a nice blow moulded case, and Im quite happy with it so far.

How to drill into a concrete lintel?

The Bosch Blue Multi Material masonary bits are great, drilled holes easily when brand new Makita masonry drills failed,,well worth the extra cost.

    Removing a wash hand basin

Pop into your local plumbers and buy a bottle of One Shot, as long as you dont look like your going to throw it over somone they should sell it to you. You used to be able to buy Hydrochloric Acid Spririt of salts but its not so easy nowadays. One shot works extremely well.
