    Sawstop demo and thoughts

If I was buying a site saw I would go for one of the Sawstops, they look good quality, well designed and the finger protection is a bonus. When I was younger I never seemed to have any accidents at all but as I'm getting older I seem to have got more accident prone, this year I have twice cut...

    Steamy bathroom

Well I went for a look at the property yesterday and the bathroom was absolutely running with condensation, still no heating on. The extractor was working but probably not as well as it should so I've organised for a more powerful one to be fitted. Hopefully heating, more extraction and...

Makita plunge saw, full kit, £351 (110 volt)

I think someone has made a bit of a mistake with the advert and if ordered you will only get the saw and MAKPAC case, the advert also states the cable length is 100m.............

Felder also do a version similar to Altendorf which they seem quite confident in......

    Tracksaw mix n match

The rubber strip on my 3m rail is probably about 1mm away from the blade but doesn't really seem to affect the cut quality, it's mainly ply and MDF that I cut so might be different on MFC. It would make it easier cutting things accurately to size if the strip was the cut line though so I should...

Putty and paint advice for sash windows

As said air flow will help, a fan blowing over them should speed things up. Water based paint and linseed oil putty don't always play well together.........

    Quickline broadband?

One of the issues of my property is getting the cable to the right point and I'm not happy with any of the solutions that they have suggested so far. I found it quite amusing that when the chap I have been dealing with realised I was a bit particular about things he said he would make sure I got...

    Steamy bathroom

My tenant has reported that now the weather is colder the bathroom gets "ridiculously steamy" when they have a shower even with the window open and have requested a more powerful extractor fan. The shower is over the bath and the extractor is more or less directly above it (I presume the...

    Harrogate Show

I went this morning and quite enjoyed it. @Spectric I had a good look at the Lamello Zeta and was very impressed, it would be really useful for me I just need to weigh up if I can justify the outlay. I was also quite taken with the Mafell cordless jigsaw, it feels like a brick in your hand but...

    Quickline broadband?

About a month ago Quickline appeared in our village and started causing chaos by cutting up the pavements and roads and adding big green metal boxes to what were nice little grassed areas so we can have high speed fibre broadband. As I understand it's heavily funded by the government as part of...

    Staining 'oak' filler

How about wax filler sticks, you use them after everything is finished and can mix them to whatever shade you need, great for pin holes etc. Example here https://www.toolstation.com/briwax-wax-repair-sticks/p62562

Bespoke Back to Wall WC Cabinet

Thinking about it those button fix might not work if the worktop stops you from lowering the panel downwards, there are a few other Button Fix options though so one of them might work. Or maybe some of these connectors from Hafele, looks like there is nothing that they can't fix!

Any new panel products for making kitchen cupboards?

I use Arnold Laver at Hull, I'm trade so delivery is free but I do spend a small fortune with them every month. I'm afraid the only choice is what they have in stock at the time and being from Yorkshire I was a bit upset when the price had gone up nearly £20 a sheet from the previous month but...

Any new panel products for making kitchen cupboards?

I think a lot can be down to the grade of the ply, the sheets I paid about £90 for were BB/BB. I had some from the same supplier the previous month that were about £75 inc vat which were BB/CP, only one decent face but were fine for what I needed.

Any new panel products for making kitchen cupboards?

I'm currently making an island unit for a customers kitchen using birch ply for the cabinets, we did the rest of the kitchen cabinets in MFC and think he now wishes we had used birch ply for all of them, no problems with the MFC he just thinks the birch ply makes a better job. Think I paid just...

    Festool Domino "loose" settings

I bullnose the edges on my spindle moulder but a router table would be fine. I actually made a batch of 10mm dominos today for some face frames and doors I have to make. The proper Festool dominos are often quite tight so making your own allows a bit more of a user friendly fit, about 0.1mm...
