    Telescopic Ladder

I’ve had a 2.9m Werner telescopic ladder to get on the loft occasionally. Last year it collapsed and I had a nasty fall. Probably one of the extensions had not locked properly. It is quite difficult to extend and see if it is locked okay or not. Now every time I use it I am scared it will happen...

    Joke Thread 5

They did and it is out of production already. Great little car, we use it for 95% of our trips now. 1.5p/mile.

New road tax charging rules wont just affect EV OR just new vehicles, its retrospectively changes your tax band

We’ll need a civil engineer to chip in for a good answer in this one but I suspect it has to do with the design and maintenance of the road. A road is a lot more than a bit of tarmac. What looks like a country lane next to our house is in perfect condition and has a concrete base extending...

New road tax charging rules wont just affect EV OR just new vehicles, its retrospectively changes your tax band

Cars, even relatively heavy ones, do hardly any damage to roads when compared to busses and hgv. Wikipedia Random other web site

    Tablet/phone charging

A bit late to the party, but I found the below (Great Scott) quite informative. Have one of these Anker car chargers which probably has a boost converter built in for the higher voltages. https://www.anker.com/products/b2731?variant=42753546354838 £22 at amazon.co.uk

    Sold Workshop Downsizing - Titan-Pro 7ton Log-splitter

Just bought one of these last week and it is an impressive tool. Very powerful and much heavier than expected. Makes easy work of splitting even quite big logs, highly recommended. I paid more than double, this is a great price.

    Ground screws for shed builders

I used a post digger, threaded rods and postcrete. Being able to level the wooden base with just a spanner was quite nice. On my next one I think I’ll save my pennies for a bit longer and go for a concrete slab as it will be lower to the ground. Concrete will need a good DPC, unlike my garage...

    Riving knife

These are much more expensive: https://www.krisdevo.com/devos-woodcraft/p/otter-large125x-11x-1non-juice-groove-desnb-yktr9-zjwfb-629p7-5cl93-t6yly He has a YouTube channel where he shows what is involved in making them and it is both a lot of work and requires a fair bit of machinery. I...

    Electric vehicles

We charge at 10A, so around 2.5kWH. Not every night and not all night long. That is nothing compared to evening time when people cook on their induction stoves, boil the kettle and someone uses an electric shower. In London it is not uncommon to see chargers in residential areas, and sometimes...

    Electric vehicles

Just did a search on vw website for young used ‘up’ and ‘e-up’ and they cost about the same. Looked at 2020 and newer.

    Electric vehicles

We drive around 40 miles on weekdays, at around 4 mile/kWH that is 10kW to top up at any time during the night. At least with electricity there are different options to generate it, with petrol/diesel we are pretty much stuck using oil. There is an old quarry very close to us, then used as...

    Electric vehicles

We live relatively rural and got a second car recently. A little be e-up with a range of 160 miles. Always charge at home on night tariff for next to nothing and our big diesel car is hardly ever used now. The little ev is surprising good fun to drive and the range perfectly fine for 95% of our...

    Which sanding discs?

Same here; where I bought them last year for £18.89 they are now £30 for 50 150mm discs. I like the cubitron, but do find the edges a bit fragile possibly, compared to abranet. Maybe I am just not careful enough on really rough wood and corners though. Love the ets ec-150/5 btw. Should have...

Nobody mentioned Sam Maloof yet? He probably did most of his famous work before y2k though.

Advice please re: blade for 10" table saw

I suspect the bore should be 30mm? It is on my Bosch saw at least. Worth double checking.

Which woodworking YouTube channels do you watch?

Lots of good ones mentioned already. I always enjoy watching Ishitani Furniture. No music, and he makes really elegant stuff.

    Quangsheng No.62 low angle vs No.5 vs No.5 1/2?

‘ve got a nice LN 5 1/2 but almost always grab my old Stanley #7. It’s about the same weight and seems to glide smoother. Works fine for smaller stuff too. If I could have just one it would be #7. I do like Jacob’s comment about using whichever one is sharpest :)

Nail gun advice for a newbie

I was looking at nail guns a little while ago and decided to get a small compressor and air nail gun instead of a cordless one. Glad that I did because I've added a 23g nail gun and tire inflator later for a modest sum. silverline 18g 50mm nailer costs around £35 The Ryobi is around £165...
