    New Mattress

We have a Simba king size. The first one sagged after about 3 years so we had a replacement under guarantee. It did smell but only for about a week, with the smell gradually fading. But it is heavy. We don't turn it over because the top layer has te memory foam but we turn it around as...

    Telescopic Ladder

Mine is a 3.6m one from Lidl / Aldi. It is surprisingly heavy, but needs to be because of the diameter of the lower tubes - they need to contain all the upper tubes which gradually decrease in diameter. I would expect a 6m one to be really heavy. Useful and sturdy but I would not want a longer...

    Makita ROS issues?

I have ha it for around 2 years I suppose - time seems to go very quickly these days. Just occasional use though. Anyway it seems it might be operating as it should, it's just that I hadn't noticed this rotation slowing down to a complete stop before. A good clean out is my next step I think. K

    Michael McIntyre - Pain

Totally off topic comments now. Never had kidney stones or gall stones fortunately, but I would like to make a comment about MM. It amazes me how he can make a comedy sketch out of practically nothing. Last week it was about silent letters in English spelling. From something so simple and...

Haggling on price - is it the done thing?

I tend to ask the question - are you open to offers? Then I take it from there. I often find people ask a bit more so they can come down to the price they actully wanted. No harm in asking the question politely. And no harm in the seller responding politely either. The response 'sorry, no...

    Opinions/experience sought...

I have a graduate (hence my name) and a denford viceroy, both ex schools. The graduate is cast iron throughout and is a heavy, rock solid beast. I love it. The viceroy is also a good, solid machine, not all cast iron but sturdy nevertheless. I prefer the outboard arrangement on the viceroy, plus...

    Makita ROS issues?

The odd thing is, the disk rotates freely by hand when switched off. It rotates rapidly when switched on but with no load. If I put even a small load on the disk then it stops rotating, but continues to vibrate. There does not appear to be a drive belt or similar device that might be slipping...

    Makita ROS issues?

Hi Donie, and thank you for that. I will certainly try it. I have looked at the online manual but there is no relevant information there. Other online sites suggest a thorough cleaning of caked in sawdust, but I shall try your suggestion first K

    Makita ROS issues?

Hi guys, the model is BO6030. When I have it running upside down, it spins quite fast. WHen I put some pressure on the disk it slows down and with moderate pressure it stops spinning. (It still vibrates but without actually spinning.) So I was wondering if it is faulty or behaving as it should. K

    First lathe advice

Take a look on facebook marketplace. There are usually plenty of lathes offered for sale there. K

    First lathe advice

If you should see one of these for sale (in different colours and branded as vevor, lumberjack etc etc) then please do not buy. Do not be tempted. In other words DO NOT BUY. DO NOT BE TEMPTED. I have read a few positive comments, but many many more negative ones. Follow the advice above and go...

    Makita ROS issues?

Hi all, I have a Makita random orbit sander which takes 150mm sanding disks. I noticed recently that when I apply even very light pressure, the rotation slows almost to a stop. I have not noticed this before and indeed it might have been like that from new. Does anyone have a similar sander, and...

    Another scam?

I just saw this on facebook. Most likely a scam and I thought I would warn otherss. Here's the post:- My son works at DeWalt and he told me that most people don’t know they can get a Impact Driver McLaren Edition by filling out a short form for just £6.99! DeWalt celebrates McLaren’s F1...

Lidl black Friday deals - possible scam?

Yes, it does seem too good to be true, especially since these offers are not included in the regular emails I get from Lidl. And the web address is www.superflagship.ru - doesn't sound like Lidl to me. K

Lidl black Friday deals - possible scam?

I regularly get emails from Lidl telling me about the latest offers. The most recent email makes no mention of DIY kit. However I have found a Lidl advert with huge discounts (e.g. the plasma cutter with built in compressor for £60). The thing is, the headings are all in French, whilst the...

    Another sharpening video

I was expecting critical replies for the video, and I have to agree it looks like sharpening that way for the sake of doing it that way. However I think there could be people who find it intriguing, and might want to try it out. Not as bad as some of the so-called genius hacks I have seen on...

    Another sharpening video

This video looks interesting. With some modifications it could be quite useful. As it is there would be excesive wear in one place. Perhaps a slower speed and longer stroke.plus the ability to keep the angle while moving from side to side. K

Using metalworking carbide tips for wood?

Hi all, has anyone tried using carbide tips intended for metal turning on wood? If so, do they cut OK? Do they need modifying first, e.g. touching up on a grindng wheel or changing the angle? What are your toughts / experiences? K

    Five favourite quotes.

I first heard that from Billy Connolly. Made me smile. I don't know who the original author is though. K

    Axminster chucks for Union Graduate

Thumbs up for graduate owners. Axminster's online page is showing the Evoution SK114 chuck as available in 1 1/2 x 6 R/L, with the comment - despatching soon. I had heard that these were no longer being offered in Graduate thread, and it did say on the Axminster site that they were out of stock...
