    Impact Wrench which one? Help

This is why my Renault master needs a gearbox rebuild every 5 minutes, its the same one they put in all the tiny cars. Next time I am getting a Mk 8 Transit or an Iveco. Ollie

    Clear coat over stain problem.

I am making a guitar kit ( electric ) for my Son at the moment. The body has a thin figured maple veneer on the front which we want to stain in a fade like this sort of thing The body not the fancy neck and headstock. I have bought some Chestnut spirit stains and done a couple of practice...

Campervan cabinetry - ply & MDF novice Q's

There is a company that sells lightweight plywood and other composites especially for vans etc. Been looking into it a bit as I might get roped into doing a conversion. https://shop.morlanduk.com/ or these guys Lightweight Panels for DIY Campervans – Panel Systems They also do fittings and...

    Water staining on cedar cladding?

Just leave it, after a while it will mellow and blend. The cedar on my shed is a few years old now I did it with osmo uv oil. It looked fresh for a couple of months but then you just forget about it anyway, it has melowed and greyed a good bit. These tiny marks will likely dissapear pretty...

What router bits do I need for this job?

Yes, I mean an "oscillating multi tool" . Fein used to be the only ones till the patent ran out. They are the sort of tool you will use all the time once you have it, and wonder why you didn't buy one years ago. I would suggest getting a Fein one, I am on my 3rd one so they last at least 10...

What router bits do I need for this job?

I have never had a router bit disintegrate, I think it is very unlikely. Generally the difference between quality of bits is the better ones have larger sections of carbide and will be finished/balanced/sharpenned better. You really can tell the difference in quality with a Wealdon or Titman vs...

What router bits do I need for this job?

Using a router table will not be practical in this instance. For the same reason its not wise to cut an 8 x4 sheet on a little table saw, but safer to use a track saw, bringing the "smaller thing to the bigger thing" if you see what I mean. That tiny router is designed for trimming with one hand...

What router bits do I need for this job?

It would be easier to put the seal in the casements, no fancy virtuex needed as Doug71 suggested. That bit he shows may be available in 1/4 size but if not you can do it with either one small router bit and one large one or a saw kerf and a normal flat bit. If you go on the schleigel site they...

    Mini table saw advice?

Axminster used to do one with a cast iron top, probably still do. My mate had one, it was pretty good for back of the van use but the trunion guides were made of plastic bits and pieces which collapsed into bits and replacement parts are not easily found, its lurking somewhere in the workshop...

    Axminster Ultimate Edge problem

I don`t have one either but was considering getting one. @MARK.B. might be right but also the quality of belts can vary a lot even for normal belt sanders. I have had some very "lumpy" belts before. Now I stick to Mirka hiolit or the ones from machine mart ( might be Klingspor ) these both...

    Woodrat or Leigh Dovetail jig?

What about one of those pantorouters? they look like fun. Or if you have a router table already a method like the incra system or a gifkins style thing that works on a table. Ollie

    Mondays Guess the Wood Contest

    Loft flooring, OSB or ply?

My mate does a lot of loft hatches and flooring. He uses loft legs from wickes and the tongue and grooved osb floorboards or the equivalent chipboard ones. They are easier to get up into the loft and the T and G gives some support where there is not full support from joists, due to cuts etc. Ollie

    Hard and Exotic wood suppliers

Try Tyler hardwoods near Hungerford, good range of timber and helpful people. Timbmet do a good range of Hardwoods but it's not a wander about and choose a board place, more like buy a M3 at a time. @Yojevol has mentioned Vastern, they actually have 2 yards, one is near Calne. I find them...

Advice on creating a moulding on a massive beam

Try these Beading Large the one at the bottom is 19mm. or Maybe do two grooves with a 30 degree V cutter to establish the outside edges, run a roundover both ways to get the outer radius, then you only have to remove the inner section of the radius bit. maybe a scratch stock.. Ollie

    Beaded face frames, question?

When I have done them I do it similar to @peter-harrison above. Thickness of 2 carcasses plus a bit for discrepancies. I agree with you that a single face frame over all cabinets looks best. However, many people wouldn't notice the difference ( we do because its our job to make stuff and notice...

Avoiding sanding 'tearout' on figured maple

Cabinet scraper is probably the answer. It looks like you might have a split or void in the lighter coloured wood Running at a shallow angle. As you sand deeper you are exposing it. I have had this issue with oak before. You get some thin superglue and a small nozzle, let some into the...
