New planer thicknesser/Jet or Axminster or neither?

Look at Itech, SCM, Felder/Hammer, Robland, Rojek. Sedgewick do a spiral head now but not sure it will retro fit or if they will let you buy it separately . Note that all helical insert heads are not equal, the Felder silent power and SCM ones are much better designed than some of the axminster...

    These headlight 'cleaning' hacks....

I have restored headlights a couple of times. The first time I used a kit which was ok but the second time just wet and dry paper and polish. I found you need to be fairly aggressive with the wet and dry at first. Effectively you need to remove the surface that has gone yellow and start again...

Want to fit replacement double glazed windows.

This is so true. As far as I can tell the company has to be Fensa registered which basically means paying Fensa. Then any old numpty can be sub contracted or employed to do the work with zero skill or training. I have actually worked for Fensa registered companies before, it was never mentioned...

    Sash window renovation

The simplex system as used in Scotland allows the lower sash to swing out for ease of cleaning etc. There is a weight limit I think so check if double glazing. There are other variations on the idea as well. Probably £20 in hardware per window. I usually suggest double glazing if you are...

DeWALT DWXAF101 Workshop Air filter 0.3um

Festool are doing a Systainer one now which is Hepa I think. Though even HEPA has different standards, then there is iso and MERV and others, it does seem like they make it extra confusing. I second sideways`s recommendation of the THOR ones I have one of the MIcroclene (previous name of Thor)...

Want to fit replacement double glazed windows.

Just mesure the brick to brick openings take of 5 or 10mm to give you a little wiggle room when fitting. Fitting windows is incredibly easy unless there is compications like a bay, or particularly awkward access so you could just do it yourself. The place you buy them from should have a...

    PVC Skirting Board

By far the best performance and value is STIXALL, other hybrid polymers are similar. So much better than gripfill and no nails.

    affordable cabinet material?

Interesting, is it equal thickness veneers like birch ply ? And by reasonable price is that cheapr than the birch ?

    Chocolate Teapot ?

Definitely rubbish, I used to just use the nearest chisel, stanley knife , marking knife, belt sander, bit of sandpaper, rough brick or paving slab, razor blade, block plane, etc. etc. all probably better than those sharpeners. Now I use a Pica pencil which I somehow don`t loose.

    Instagram

People keep telling me to get an instagram account. Things like this make me want to avoid it like the plague ( which is my initial feeling anyway to be fair ) .

Vac/cyclone filters clogging with super-fine dust

This is why a bagged extractor is better as the fleece bags should stop the dust from blocking the filter, and they get replaced often. I killed a Dyson with fine filler dust once. My festool has done tons of fine dust over the years with no problem of blocking the filter.

Record Power AC 400 air filter mounting

Instead of chains I just used 4 screw in hooks at 90 degrees to the ones on the unit.

    SCM Sandya 1/s help

Sounds to me like a recalibration of the gauge is needed , or a 1mm shim maybe. I would expect some adjustment to be built in to the guage somehow like an adjustable part with a grub screw to hold it . Does the auto guage measure the stock as you feed it in and adjust the rollers accordingly to...

    Square not square?

Starret combi squares are properly square, I have the flat plate veritas one that is square also. Any engineers square should be certified within a tolerance there are different classes of accuracy but if it is BS or DIN certified it is square. I don`t trust wooden try square style ones at all.

Advice needed - cracks in dining table

Elm is known for moving. I agree with the comments about making the holes bigger to allow movement. And it could have been too wet. I would take it off the base and let it sit a week or a few, then insert a couple of butterfly's accross the split, elongate holes I'm the base by quite a bit and...

    ATC Setup Video

I think he certainly overcomplicated it but that is his style and why people watch I guess. You only need to zero them all off once then the offset is saved in the tool list.

    Fusion 360 for personal use

If you can use sketchup and cura then Fusion should be no problem. I moved from sketchup a few years ago. There are some differences in the way Fusion works compared to Sketchup which are a bit confusing initially as it seems counter intuitive if you are used to the sketchup way. However, once...

    Advise on bathroom cabinet/vanity

Pretty good price really, similar to these (I know its a different style but still twin inset sinks) https://www.easybathrooms.com/furniture/bathroom-vanity-units/traditional-vanity-units?filter=t148-4416.4418~t183-5001

    Advise on bathroom cabinet/vanity

The quotes might not seem as ridiculous once you have made it. There is 4 drawer runners, 8 hinges, 6 handles, is the top marble ? not cheap, are they tulipwood doors with a panel ? quite a lot of painting etc. To find the dimensions put the picture into a cad program like fusion 360 or...
