Is your iMac or Macbook getting long in the tooth ?

Yep mine is getting tricky to use. Mac Mini (2012) and and its now starting to creak when running Excel in office. Gave Mac a go as I hate the built in disposability of PCs but this Mac has been little better and will go back to PCs next time.

    Keruing is my first thought.

    Door Upgrade

For my last workshop (a barn which is now our home) I built something pretty much identical to what you drew. Worked really well and the doors have now been repurposed and still in use. For doors I used some quality sawn redwood. It was left to fully dry before machining as so much "kiln dried"...

Clamps - Best bang for buck?

URKO are my goto clamps. They are on the heavy side but are as reassuringly solid as an old record G clamp with the speed of an F clamp

Brilliant bit of kit for dovetails and tenons. I was going to post some pictures of my jig for making tenons but its the first post on the facebook link above

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Bit of an odd one but got asked to make part of a praxinoscope and incase you like me you dont know what they this is one I found on youtube . Someone had a go but it wasn't even remotely true when spun so I had to get it spot on to make a happy customer. I only made up the rosewood and cherry...

    Electric chainsaw experience

I have a MS181 and the Makita amongst others. The Makita is very handy and the best chainsaw I have ever used for precise-ish cutting or rough joinery. The Makita also gets used when a job is just a few cuts but when it's a proper job needing multiple or larger cuts it stays on the shelf. You...

    Wood treatment for planters

Linseed can dry quite quickly when in direct sunshine but be aware it's likely to become very dark. I treated our douglas fir garden table with it and it basically came out black!

Recommendations for a reasonably priced digital camera

I went for a Sony DSC RX 100. One of the earlier versions. Terrific simple little camera. I say simple as I am sure it can do loads of things but it's left on intelligent auto most of the time. Fantastic in low light with a large sensor. It's very compact but the down side to that is the zoom is...

    Some questions on Japanese Chisels.

I see no evidence of this with my Japanese chisels. I barely use them these days but they are fine in an unheated workshop on Dartmoor. They may be worse than western ones for rust but still perfectly good IME.

Suitable Underlay For Cutting Sheet Goods With Track Saw

Using Celotex or similar does not seem very green. Just been doing a kitchen on site and battens worked fine as did the cardboard packaging the units came in laid over some spare panels.

Tips wanted for doing kitchen work top joints

Just got to use the new guide bush and cutter. Went for this replaceable tip one from Wealdon https://www.wealdentool.com/cgi-bin/sh0 ... 13_2d1_2f2 Firstly Wealdon were exceptionally helpful finding the right bush combination for my old router and secondly the bit is superb. Cuts and clears so...

    track saw setup

Is that right? Surly if it toes in it would burnt the wast side. I am new to tracksaws and not checked how mine is set up but surprised that it would set anything other than perfectly parallel.

    Adding surface friction to Aluminium?

It's how we redo it. Not sure how it's originally done in the factory Edit. This gives some good info on how boards are done https://boardlady.com/nonskid.htm

    Adding surface friction to Aluminium?

You could probably do it the way non slip is done on Windsurf boards. You cover it in epoxy and sprinkle course grained sugar or salt on the surface while wet. When it's cured wash off the salt/sugar and the epoxy now has a rough texture to it.

    Ear defenders

I have a pair of DAB ones from Clas Ohlson. Looks like they have changed the models and the price! Still if the new ones are as good as mine they would still be worth the money. I spend much of my days operating heavy firewood machinery and these make the day far more pleasurable...

    General plywood advice

Ply is not ideal for shelves as the loading is all in one plane and only half the layers of ply are working in your favour. Having said that if it's not a long span or heavily loaded you should be OK. Cheap plys tend to have more cavities and courser grained wood so more filling required prior...

    Heads-up - Gluing Accoya

No experience with Accoya but you could seal the wood with epoxy around the lock before fitting to avoid any reaction
