    Totally waterproof finish ?

If you encapsulate the bowl in epoxy it makes no difference how humid the environment is. Built a boat with West system resin that lives in the water but the wood is still at 10%

How to darken American black walnut (and get a good sheen)?

I bang on about it but again would recommend Liberon Finishing oil. It just has a depth of colour Osmo cant match IME.

    Devon and Cornwall

If you like walking and scrambling you might be better going to this wood. http://www.dartmoor.gov.uk/lookingafter ... katorcopse It's like Wistmans wood but not quite as atmospheric but the other walking is more interesting. You can walk up past Meldon reservoir to the copse but then go up the...

    Devon and Cornwall

Dartmoor is great (I live there). For woody things you cant beat Wistmans wood but maybe not what your after :D https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wistman%27s_Wood For modern furniture the Devon Guild of Craftsman has some quality exhibitions from time to time...

    Replacement plane iron

Mine has victor forged on it but it's a long way from a favoured blade. I don't keep up with these things so no idea what the new ones look like.

I make my own with a Fisch plug cutter in the drill press

    Wood movement

It was clearly wet when purchased. Most softwood I have bought from reputable suppliers is around 15%- 17% so needs some more drying before being ready to work. Never sure why softwood is not dried as low as hardwoods though.

    Noob chainsaw advice?

Ah is it the Oregon Powersharp? Had forgotten about these as not seen one in years.

    Noob chainsaw advice?

"It does also occur to me that a standard chain that's really sharp (due to the ease of sharpening with the built in stone) may well be better than a ripping chain that's blunt that I was too lazy to sharpen" Built in stone? Sharpening on a regular crosscut blade and milling chain is much the...

What Make For Good Quality Long Lasting Spade Bits?

Yes there is. Whats the cheapest way to make a rough as rats holes? In all honesty never tried the classy spade bits but I would never recommend basic ones.

    Noob chainsaw advice?

Another one agreeing with Duncan. Only bit I would add is I thought one of other purposes of the helmet was the peek helps protect you from kickback.

Dealing with small cracks/holes? And best finishes?

For non structural filing of small cracks and holes I like shellac sticks. You melt them into the marks with a soldering iron and you can clean up almost straight away. I generally prefer at least one shade darker than you think as for some reason a darker fault seem less noticeable to the eye...

How to route a long, thin piece of wood???

I would just use a router with it's side fence like this. Welcome to forum by the way :D

When will this pallet furniture trend end?

Yep it appears to still be all the rage. This is a local bakery https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQ7YISgv9r8 I got to see the build first hand and the time and effort that they put into it using reclaimed wood must have cost them a fortune in labour and never worth it IMO. On the other hand it's...

    Old Startrite Bandsaw

"The tyres don't look to be in the best shape but I don't think I'm going to be able to replace them" Scott and Sargent sell cork on a roll which should be perfect for covering the wheels. Used it on my old Wadkin and worked a treat and not too tricky a job. Good luck with the restoration. She...

    cordless hedge cutters

Cant comment on full on hedge trimmers but my parents recently got these these https://www.tornevalley.co.uk/hedgetrim ... oC1-7w_wcB I was very sceptical that such a small machine with tiny battery would be capable of much but it's remarkably able and long lasting. If this anything to go by the...

    Heavy duty thermalite block fixings?

Can wholeheartedly recommend these. Had to hang some heavy cupboards and think someone on here recommended them. Very solid secure fixing and easy to do.
