    Is Ryobi ETS1825 any good?

OK. I've just arranged to go and see the saw this evening. Apart from making sure the thing runs I would appreciate some advice on what to look for (ie how do saws tend to get abused!), are there any quirks with this model?? Thanks in advance, Halo

Poll, Fine Woodworking videos, how many

I'm still very new to this game so have yet to find the repetitious nature that eventually comes with any magazine. I guess I'll end up cancelling when that happens. btw I think I end up paying ~ £4 and a few pennies. I guess it all depends on how your bank deals with the foreign money...

    Is Ryobi ETS1825 any good?

Hi All, A local classified has the Ryobi ETS1825 for sale and I wondered if anyone has one and could comment? I have been looking at the basic TS-200 from axminster but £200 is just a stretch too far new. This will be my first table saw so I have no idea what to look for, or expect! Cheers...

Poll, Fine Woodworking videos, how many

I do. For 5 dollars a month it is no more expensive than a British magazine and that gives you access to pdfs of current issue as well as all the videos.

    Workshop choices

I can second for the felt tiles. I have just fitted them to our shed and they do look good. If you go for this I would shop around as the price varies tremendously. I can PM where I got mine from if interested.

Woodworking class cancelled for second time.

Hi Mike, All I can say is that I hope the full time course did OK by you (I am assuming it did because you are here now). It didn't cross my mind that the machines would get abused but I can see exactly what you mean about folks tight for money bringing in some "old wood" to make their bird...

Evolution FURY 5 Tablesaw Vs Axminster TS-200

Hi All, I see that F&C has been promoting the Fury 5 table saw over the past couple of months without actually saying whether it is any good or not. I'm in the market for an entry level saw and pretty much set my mind on the TS-200 from Axminster but the Fury 5 may be more versatile for my...

Woodworking class cancelled for second time.

Hi Bruce, The course was on at the main campus of Fife College in Kirkcaldy. I spoke with the admissions people and they were surprised that the course was not being subscribed to. Apparently the way it was run the first few weeks were teaching (which I think amounted to how not to loose...

Woodworking class cancelled for second time.

Thanks for all the feedback. I am currently finishing off a 12x14 shed where I will be definitely be having enough room for doing some woodwork but the space will be shared with bicycles, a motor bike, lawnmower etc so cannot have a whole ton of machinery. I would agree about the need for a...

Woodworking class cancelled for second time.

Hey Rob, I guess some back story may be useful. I am mid 30s (when did that happen  ), and a reasonably competent, if slow, DIYer. I have always had an interest in woodworking but no actual hands on experience. I would love to be able to make my own furniture because I dislike houses...

Woodworking class cancelled for second time.

I'm not sure what I'm interested in yet. I definitely like the more contemporary stuff that uses sound techniques but is a bit quirky (David Savage is someone that springs to mind). Having done some teaching myself I also know that 30 min teaching can replace 6 months reading, so I'm not sure...

Woodworking class cancelled for second time.

Well folks, I am feeling rather down in the dumps tonight. From what I hear our local college has a very decent full time furniture making course and when I saw that the college also did evening classes (and a bargain at £80 for an 18 week term!) I jumped at the chance. But this is the second...

Ebay prices - has the world gone mad?

To be fair that is the only bargain I have ever had from e-bay. I usually miss out or get fleeced!!

    I am now live!

I really like the overall design of the webpage. Two comments that I hope are helpful: 1) You may want to optimise how the images are shown as a few showed an awful lot of "jaggies" on the edges which detracts. Is this a magic wand cropping tool issue in whatever photoshop style program you...

Ebay prices - has the world gone mad?

As a newbie I only have one router: an ELU Mof177e. Bought on ebay about 3 months ago for £37 including postage. Feel like I got a bit of a bargain now

    Cleaning SAP from heartwood larch

Hi All, I bought some green heartwood larch for a few outdoor projects. It has sat in the workshop for a couple of weeks as I wait for some decent weather and it started to ooze copious amounts of sap. What is the best way to clean this off before I start to use it? Cheers, Halo

    Best temperature for workshop

Wickes had a 4 for 1 offer for £30 so I have enough to give 100 mm insulation all round. It will probably cost me another £120 to board over the insulation and I reckon I will have to make some new doors as they are very draughty but I should be able to make the place toasty soon. Also, I...

    Best temperature for workshop

Thanks for the heater bargain info Alan, it is even better than the B&Q offer. How good are the thermostats on them? I am just starting to buy tools for my workshop and don't want things to be going rusty (like in my dad's unheated / uninsulated garage). It seems to me that to prevent rust...

Hal Taylor chair - Now rocking :)

I think the chair looks stunning. How you ever found the time to make it with the little one is beyond me (it was 18 months before we could think of doing anything after our first son was born). As a Scottish woodworking newbie more detail on where you sourced your wood from would be great (ie...

    Best temperature for workshop

Hi All, Given the bloomin' cold weather we have been getting at the minute I was wondering if there is an optimal lowest temperature that workshops should be set at to avoid damage to tools, glues, stock etc (or is it relative humidity we should be worried about?). I see that B&Q are selling...
