    "Nice" Ledge and Brace gate?

I made this about 18 months ago. I’m not holding it out as a perfect specimen (I didn’t really use proper joinery), but I think the wood makes it look a little bit more special than something you’d buy from B&Q. I think the wood is what will make it look good.

Any surfer carpenters fancy a few months in Morocco?

I have occasionally called myself a surfer and a carpenter but the truth is that I'm pretty average at both. Were I younger and in different circumstances, I'd be seriously interested in this but sadly I cannot. Hope you get the people and the waves you're after. Good luck

    A sort of wood project...

I’m afraid that I can’t answer your questions but I hope that someone on here can help. Certainly no need to seek forgiveness for asking. It definitely is woodworking and clearly a very important project for you.

Good stuff. I think you'll be pleased, but don't expect absolute perfection!

anyone own a AXMINSTER TRADE AT260SPT?

Thanks. By locking handle, I assume you mean the "lift and shift" leaver next to the thicknessing table height adjustment wheel? What is the handle which you pull out for planing and let in for thicknessing? The manual doesn't explain what it actually does. Does it engage/disengage the rollers?

    Decent timber in Surrey

I've been to Surrey timbers a few times. I don't think they have a lot of softwood there, but I'm sure they'll tell you if you give them a call. It's the only timber merchant I've ever been to so I've nothing to compare it too (I want to go to English Woodlands timber in W Sussex, but they're...

anyone own a AXMINSTER TRADE AT260SPT?

I've just taken delivery of one a couple of days ago (ordered before the price rise fortunately). I haven't really spent a lot of time with it yet, but my initial impressions are generally favourable. Overall it seems solidly put together. It is very quiet which is great, and so far the...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

A while ago I posted a photo of tool cabinet I'd made. Since then I've been gradually fitting it out with tool racks and internal panels. First was a chisel rack: I then made an internal hinged panel. It's just 12mm ply with oak lipping. I put some of my measuring tools on the panel...

    Strong colour

I like that dark green. We're having our bathroom done at the moment and putting panelling on the lower part of the wall. We're thinking of a dark blue or darkish grey. I might now throw a dark green into the options!

Can I cut a door in half?

I decided to have a go at modifying the original door and I think it will be OK. The sides of the opening appear to be parallel so I started by marking a line up the middle of the central stile where I will cut the door. I then planed one edge of the door parallel to that line, taking off as...

    Cut Resistant Gloves

When I started out at the beginning of this year, I was regularly nicking myself with chisels. It wasn't so much when using the tool to make the cut, but carelessness when picking the tools up, or picking something else up whilst still holding the chisel. For a while I had a stock of plasters...

Not everyone finds woodwork quite so easy.

For anyone put off from posting photos either because they don't think the work is good enough or, conversely, they worry they'll be viewed as showing off, you might feel better about it if, as well as posting the photo, you describe how it was designed and made (e.g. a "work in progress" thread...

Is it time to buy a new tool... router table / table saw / spindle moulder?

I was impressed at how much stuff Gaudions sell when I last went there. It's where I always bought petrol as a teenager; not least because I could put it on my dad's account there! It was a lot smaller in those days.

Yet another english style workbench build

This is looking great. I started out in this hobby at the start of this year and making the workbench is a perfect starting project because you can learn a great deal and end up with the most useful part of the workshop you will ever own.
