Post a photo of the last thing you made

And something a bit more refined - a small open box with simple dovetails. I’m still practicing but these dovetails came out pretty well.

Partially constructed cold frames (the overhang at the front is much larger than it needs to be due to a change in design; I might fix that at some point).

    Coronavirus

I really feel for you (and others in your position) Bob. We were about to push the button on a kitchen and bathroom revamp but I think we’ll have to hold off. We’ve now got the whole family working/schooling at home so it seems a bad time to turn the house upside down, and that’s before we get...

    Coronavirus

It's dig for victory here. My wife has me making "windows" for a cold frame. I guess it's still woodwork, but fine furniture it certainly ain't (although I did clean this up a bit after I took the clamps off). (I really can't get photos to show the right way up. It works if you click on...

    Coronavirus

It will build up eventually, just more slowly which means the NHS can cope with the consequences and help those who really need it. That's the theory, which seems a sound one to me. Whether it can be achieved will depend on how good we all are at complying with the advice (which is more...

Cutting a Slot in the edge of a board

You could make a 2.6mm slot with a 2.5mm router bit couldn’t you? It just requires a second pass with a fractional movement of the router (a piece of tape on the router/router table fence for example)?

    Coronavirus

I watched the press conference yesterday and I thought the UK approach makes complete sense. Every decision has a negative consequence so it's about trying to take the action which produces most gains with the most manageable downsides, and closing schools wouldn't, at the moment, have big...

Anyone doing any woodworking this weekend?

There’s normally a car in there, so I’m actually short on space. I agree getting stuff out is going to be a pain but I’ll see how it goes.

Anyone doing any woodworking this weekend?

I doubt this counts, but I decided to improve my storage arrangements for sheets of ply. In the past I’ve just leaned it against a wall but that causes it to sag and warp. Having finally got round to buying a few sheets of decent birch ply, I didn’t want that to happen so made this frame. The...

    Help a dunce day

That's how I understood it and agree with your method and answer.

Make sure you're using a bread knife sharpened for cross-cutting...

Does anyone have a sharpening question?

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I've no doubt that there are endless methods which achieve a good result, but, as someone just starting out, it's useful to hear from someone who clearly has a method which works in practice. I basically have the same set up (3 x diamond stones and a...

Does anyone have a sharpening question?

For the planes, no question. I'm less sure about the chisels though. They may cut beautifully, but will a rounded bevel cause me other problems? I guess I'll find out sooner or later.

Does anyone have a sharpening question?

Mike, I can't answer any of this, but I would be interested to know what you do! I've been meaning to mount my diamond stones in a board (like Sellers*) for a while and finally did it at the weekend. I also now have a strop which I can put in the vice too. It's going to make things a heck of...

    Vacuum hose reducer

I've made some reducers for my thicknesser and router table on a 3D printer. If you know anyone with a printer they're very easy and cheap to make to whatever dimensions you want.

    Tool Chest WIP

That's looking good. I cut on the wrong side of the line making some dovetails the other day (like you, I'm knew to this). It was just a practice piece so I just cut the pins off and had another go. I'm now trying to get in the habit of marking the waste and then always cutting on the waste...
