Don't know what to call this ?

Consider, unless you leave evidence lying about, the dumb waiter can hardly tell the missus how much you've had! John

Don't know what to call this ?

Usually referred to as a dumb waiter. You reckon? Regards John ( Back in the shop at last!)

    Giant Wood Wasp

Is that a sting it has or an ovipositor; or both ? Mist be pretty big eggs it lays. John

what exactly is this used for and how ?

I have the 147 4 and a half shown in the catalogue. Or at least very similar I rarely use it and only for mitring beadings. It was a Christmas present years ago and I still can't cut mitered beadings with it! Lol!

    Art desk - WIP

Nick. Oak should be fine, but don't forget; if your daughter uses watercolour you could see some staining in the timber over time. I'll have a look at my 'sources' and seek some ideas for studio accessories. https://www.painters-online.co.uk/searc ... ohn+walker Cheers John (hammer)

    Working with Pitch Pine..

I started my 'house ownership' in the '60s. First one was a 'villa-type' in a row of six. Happy times for me and my lady. I think I have always 'thought differently' and was quite happy with the house as it was built; it had some nice touches as regards to carpentry and joinery. I did...

    WOW! I'm in love.

Typical American, 'Just make sure you keep your hands clear of the blade'!!! I don't know about being in love! (I became indifferent when I reached 80! Er not really... Lol!) However, yes she is quite good ; she made a lovely, black-walnut stand to house a digital piano. Tasty design. I'll be...

    Coronavirus

I empathise with you Nigel. However, would you be prepared to administer the birching? I was a Police Officer from the mid 1960s to the mid 90s. Birching had been consigned to the history books by then, but often times it was a Police Officer who carried out the punishment. There used to be...

    Coronavirus

I placed myself on 'lock-down'. I've had no symptoms so far, and the only personal contact I've had is with my home-help, who takes sensible precautions. Nothing is certain, I know, but I can't see any other way of curtailing the spread of this virus until a vaccine is found. What angers me...

Scam email purporting to be from the TV Licensinng Body.

Hi Folks, I had an email yesterday telling me that the TV Licensing Body had been unable to take payment from my bank. As I have never paid for a TV licence by Direct Debit, it was simple enough to work out this was a scam. I am well over 75 years anyhow, and don't pay a licence ; For the time...

    Newbie advise

I made a chequerboard topped table for a friend, I used Maple, and Utile; the end-grain on that is very pronounced and looks quite pleasant. I did the repetitive cuts on the table-saw attachment, for my Coronet Major lathe. It did the job perfectly. I suppose I could also have used the...

    Cascamite and Iroko

I have used Polymite and the last time it was on Western red Cedar. Completely useless, and wouldn't adhere at all. The original Cascamite never failed me. Now I use Evostick Resin W; ( even if it's a bit old!) or hide glue where it's called for. John (hammer)

    Bookcase build / job interview

My very first project was a dining room suite; Sideboard, table and chairs. We lived in a two-up two-down villa type at the time and I had nowhere to work. There was just enough room to lay down a sheet of walnut veneered blockboard in the yard. On hands and knees I crawled about cutting the...

Is this aquarium cabinet strong enough?

Sounds like one of those questions which, if you have to ask, then secretly, you know the answer? Cheers John (hammer)

    How strong is this joint?

When I see designs like this, I am reminded why jointing methods from 300 years (or more) ago, are still used today; but then I am an old fuddy, who is stuck in a rut... Yes? John (hammer)

Is this the beginning of senility?

Time to start wearing a one-piece 'long-John'? Virtually impossible to don those back-to-front! John (hammer)

    Frank Klausz Dovetail Blade

He's a bit of an expert with the frame-saw for dovetails. There's something in his eye that tells you he's taking the Mick; in the nicest way of course! I just like his way of cutting dovetails for 'utilitarian' jobs, but it isn't as easy as he makes it seem! John (hammer) (For Bishoping...

    What wood is this?

There is only one 'exotic' grain I like more than Lace-wood and that is Quilted Maple. I lost an eBay auction for a 'Byrdland' Gibson, in Quilted Maple. Mind you I would have been afraid to play it for fear of damaging it! John (hammer)
