Smudger I find the 14.4v dc728 very good although notice it's more expensive than the 18V on Screwfix now! It's nice and light and has enough power and decent build. I also have the heavier 14.4v combi dc984 - but it's pretty heavy for general use. So I'd check the weight of the 18v you mention...

Nice pics - thanks Ali - it is the UF one I have. And IIRC they (the UFs) are usually flat - although they have machine marks that I grinded out. The lower grits were a bit more variable when I last looked. Cheers Gidon

I have a load of retail slatboard which is white with brightly coloured inserts. I have some white inserts but the exisiting ones are really stuck - tried various methods of getting them out but can't (any suggestions?). So I was wondering if I could paint or spray them black? The slatboards...

For versatility and value I'd second the Pony clamps recommendation. Any size you need and more clamping pressure than you'll need. BUT they are heavy and don't have the parallel jaws . I have some Bessey Ks and UniKlamps and generally grab the UniKlamps before the heavier duty ones. Very handy...

Second table complete - just need to spray a few coats of lacquer ... Pretty much made the same as the first - although used Doms for construction instead of biscuits and managed to justify some more green and black machines :). This sander is just a joy to use - even using it...
