    The new shop!

Thought it may be of interest to post pics of the furniture I was busy making (hereand here) in the lead up to Christmas (and a bit beyond!) for our new shop. The shop will sell computers, printers, cameras, camcorders, MP3/Video players etc. Our remit is computers and anything that to plugs...

    HVLP, system or compressor?

Doesn't come with anything but guess you could make a modification. It does suggest uncscrewing the nozzle to reduce air but doesn't do that much in my experience. Cheers Gidon

    Festool domino advice

I've bought a fair bit of Festool stuff recently and would strongly advise you shop around - they are discounts to be had - especially if you add bits on! Expect at a minimum 5% off you purchase price plus some freebies thrown in. Think I paid £730 for my Domino with the systainer/domino/cutter...

    HVLP, system or compressor?

Alberto I've recently gone from using HVLP guns (cheap and an expensive SATA one) off a SIP 50L 3HP compressor to an Earlex HV5000 - wish I'd done it sooner! I've only sprayed water based lacquer (Chestnut)and pre-cat nc lacquer (Chestnut Melamine lacquer) and the results are pretty good - much...

    Which HVLP Spray System ?

Roger I've tried a few guns including an expensive SATA gun and they are all pretty similiar to clean. Perhaps gravity cups are slightly easier to clean since you can spray out every last drop unlike suction cups like the one that comes with the Earlex. Star79 - just to say that you don't get...

Bread Makers - practical solution or a marketing exercise?

We used to stock pile it - but then had 1st hand experience of flour worms!! We don't bother anymore - we just buy as we need it. We have the Panasonic machine, before that the LG - both had come out well in reviews. Prefer the Panasonic though - look out for deals on Amazon - the cheaper one...

Bosch 18v Circular saw @ Screwfix

It is listed on the Bosch site with 2x2.6Ah NiMH batts: http://www.bosch-pt.co.uk/boptocs2-uk/P ... ct_id=9674 Is that what you mean by HD batteries? I've found a few times Screwfix have'nt updated their product descriptions ... Does look like a good price. Cheers Gidon

    Digital Photo Backups

I use hard disks and Flickr. Flickr gives unlimited uploads (inc HD video although will only play 90s of them) plus lots of sharing options for not very much ($25/year). In fact I get the pro account free with BT's broadband offering (a little know but very nice extra). Cheers Gidon

    Router/Tablesaw Finger Joint Jig.

Isn't this guarding issue being over complicated - can't you just sandwich the timber being cut with a simple L-shaped guard. And then add a stop so the exposed cutter doesn't come out the other side and stops inside the backer? Cheers Gidon

    Adhesive advice sought

Two reasons I like to use Titebond III if I can are: *Can be used in lower temperatures (8C vs 10C and 12C for Orig and II respectively). IMO easier to leave a fan heater on in your workshop while the glue sets if your workshop isn't warm enough. *And twice as long open time as Orig and II too.I...

    Windows 7 email app?

Again I'd go for Msoft's own Windows Live Mail: http://download.live.com/ Unless there's something it doesn't do that you need it to do. Tight integration to Windows 7 is nice IMO. Cheers Gidon

LN Vs LV low angle jack plane

Unless you're doing a lot of shooting, the thumb depressions on the LV I find sufficient. I had the LN before I got my LV - both lovely tools - might be worth trying them both out if you can and see which one you prefer. Cheers Gidon

    Address Book recommendations please...

Glad to be able to help Rob. Windows 7 has nice backup features (start|backup) built in - including "imaging" the computer which is great for completely restoring your computer if needed. Cheers Gidon

    First Sharpening Equiptment

Jed You need something to grind and something to hone. Grinding by hand can be done but it's quite slow. Coarse sandpaper stuck on glass or MDF (the grind isn't critical) and a honing guide - either Alf's suggestion or the Veritas MkII. My favoured method for grinding by hand is a DMT Extra...

    Address Book recommendations please...

Rob You can use Windows 7 - it's called Windows Contacts now - just hit the start key and type "contacts" and then hit return. You can also download Windows Live Essentials - to get a mail app, calendar etc if the PC hasn't got it installed already (Windows 7 doesn't come with it but some...

    SCMS Dust Extraction

The dust extraction in my Bosch is not much good either - dust does come out of the extraction hole so you need something collecting it but a lot also comes out around the saw. I'm guessing the Festool Kapex saws do a good job - but apart from that it seems to be a common problem with SCMSs. I...
