New (to me) sharpening system - small review

Tony Yes I've been using this stuff for a while - you obviously haven't seen my video on Youtube [-X! This is my setup although I usually skip the 5 micron and go straight to the 0.5 micron after the 1200 grit stone: You're right the 0.5 micron is at least equal to using a strop. The 0.5...

    Camera suggestions?

Davin It is called shutter lag. A site like dpreview.com gives accurate measurements for all its reviewed cameras but it's generally pretty short with most cameras nowadays. It's actually the delay from pressing the button half down (focus) and the picture being captured. If you're someone you...

    Moving away from waterstones

Chris - probably being thick here but how do you make this compound - melt them together - the suet and soap bar? My blue stick from Clifton is harder than I'd like it too. Cheers Gidon

    Which glue for outdoor projects?

Wizer it doesn't have to be PU - I've used Ttebond II and III with no problems. Cheers Gidon

    Camera suggestions?

Paul Are you au fait with digital imaging? Developing the RAW file is much like editing any other digital image - it's just you have more control over the final image. If you've not done much digital image edtiting then I would recommend reading up on that first and then RAW. Something like...

    Camera suggestions?

Good choice Neil - I have its little brother (860IS) and it's a great carry everwhere camera. I have my Canon 350D set to RAW + JPEG mode - this works best for me. Developing a RAW workflow can be time consuming so 99% of the time I just use the "developed" JPEG's, but anytime I like I can get...

    Moving away from waterstones

Karl Diamond stones for me - realised a while ago waterstones just too messy for me, especially as I have no running water in my workshop. If you want just two stones I would recommend a Duosharp red / green (fine / extra fine) and one of the new 8000 grit DMT Diasharps. I go from the grinder to...

BOSCH PMF 180 E AND XEO CHEAP ON B&Q

Rod - that's interesting to know. Very strange - I've tried a metal cutting (as opposed to the metal and wood one) blade too and I broke some teeth cutting through a screw! I just phoned Bosch and they said that shouldn't happen and are sending me another blade. But think I'll stick to my...

Ripping small & narrow pieces on table saw

Excellent Niki - well done. I wonder if it'd be safer if you could have a sacrificial base to your auxiliary fence - the same height as the cross cut sled? I'm not so sure on the piece being unsupported between the cut and the auxiliary fence? Cheers Gidon

BOSCH PMF 180 E AND XEO CHEAP ON B&Q

The metal cutting blade as far as I can tell doesn't cut steel - tried cutting a head off a screw and just get lots of smoke :(. This is a handy site for getting Bosch spares / accessories - although have to add on VAt and postage at £4.95: http://www.raidiy.com/ Cheers Gidon

BOSCH PMF 180 E AND XEO CHEAP ON B&Q

You lot are no use . Picked up one myself at £50 too :). I think this is pretty good value - Bosch green stuff is good quality / value in my experience. Had a quick play with it lunchtime and I can see it being very handy. It's far better than a cheapo detail sander I have at sanding and...

    Hand planing thin wood

I know you said hand planing Tony but as this is in General Woodworking (;)) - will your thicknesser not take wood that thickness? Mine (Scheppach 260) will if I feed it on a sled. If fact it will go thinner than that. But otherwise woodchip's suggestion or use hot melt or put a couple of stops...

New Cupboard Project .....Coming to the finish

LN - fantastic work! I really like it. It makes me jealous the amount of time you have for woodworking ;)!! By the way - did you just order the boards from Atkins and Cripps and get what you were given? Or were you able to sort through them yourself? Last time I got ABW they had to get it in...
