    Tommy's Ultimate Workshop....

There are a couple of videos on YouTube but, they may not tell you everything you want to know... Maybe some of his other videos on there will also help. A Google search also reveals it is on next Wednesday between 6-7am. :)

PVA or similar with longest time before it sets?

I think Titebond III also has a longer open time but the standard Titebond glues (I and II) only allow you ten minutes or so, like many PVAs. Personally, I wouldn't use "cascamite" for mortise and tenon joints as it tends to be quite 'brittle' once dry. Although, with it's long open time, it is...

    Birthday Suprise!

Ah, right. I mis-read your previous post. The last seven-years just seem like a blur... Enjoy it while it lasts!! :D

    Birthday Suprise!

...Well, no, not quite, as you're technically "old" and "past it" now!! :D  I don't turn 25 for another two-weeks, but even that sounds too close to 30 for my liking... :? :D

    This looks handy

That looks very smart, Pete. Far too nice to be abused on site!

    Birthday Suprise!

Watch out - another "slope" for you, there!!  :D Many happy returns. :) Are your birthdays always this good or have you just reached one of those frightening milestones, like the big three-oh...? :? :)

    Garage door locks.

Is the garage door is plain view of the passing road at the end of your drive? While those locks look like a good idea, surely, they'll be less likely to attempt a break in if there's a risk they will be clearly seen in daylight. At night, park your car right in front of it - that way, they...

    This looks handy

That does indeed look very handy though, they'd probably have been better off making one that was 'universal' and would take any brand of circular saw. Do people have much faith it the quality of Skil kit, generally? Great idea, though. You could leave the table saw and SCMS in the workshop for...

    Handmade Cross Cut Saw

Well, since you asked for a photo: I finished these off yesterday and this is how they were looking after the first coat of Danish oil. Once I've finished polishing, I'll take another photo of the one I choose to fit to the saw (I already know which one that'll be...). They're made...

repairs to M and T joints on chairs

What about using Miller Dowels? Clamp it up, take the screw out, drill the hole, drive the dowel in with a fast-setting PVA and you're done (once you've trimmed it flush). I can't think of a better solution without having to take the joints. :S If the tenons are in tact you could look at...

    We've peeked.

...And I thought this thread was going to be about the fact that we've surpassed the 6,000 mark for the number of registered users of this site. :D

    P/T advice please...narrowed to a choice of 3 - heeelp

On thing I don't like about those 'portable' thicknessers is that they are very noisy. No induction motors (they're essentially designed for "site" use), unlike most floor-standing planer/thicknessers. Of course, they all make a racket while they're under load (cutting). But, when running, it's...

    looking for a digital camera

Two-years ago, I bought a Fuji FinePix F50 for £150 from Play.com and it's been fine for the work I do. I do sometimes wish I had a camera with a wide-angle lens but, I've covered it in glue, sawdust, oil and dropped it on the concrete floor many times - it still works perfectly! :D I couldn't...

    Handmade Cross Cut Saw

Brian and Paul - thank you for those links. :) I'm making two at the same time, just in case I happen to balls one up (if not both of them!)...

    Handmade Cross Cut Saw

That looks very nice. You've done a great job, Pedder. :) I'm trying to making a saw handle at the minute for my Atkinson Walker dovetail saw kit and I know how difficult it is (especially as I'm trying to "adapt" one of the drawings from Tools for Working Wood...).

Getting a cambered edge on a plane iron?

Thanks, Rob. I'll give it a try later. Sounds a bit like applying a "micro camber"...! :D

Getting a cambered edge on a plane iron?

Rob, could you explain how you know the corners off, please? I tried doing this once (one the edge of an oil stone) but it seemed to blunt the iron at the corners and I couldn't get it to cut very well. :?

Newbie wants to build a coffee table

I don't think the veneers are any more than 1mm thick, if that (sand it with caution!!). Generally, you would also 'lip' the edges with solid timber as well - this hides the MDF edge and offers greater resistance. These can be biscuit-jointed in place. Don't bother with the very thin...
