    Do they never learn?

The woman who was killed was a vet, according to the story in the Telegraph, so she wouldn't have been completely ignorant of how to behave around livestock. Perhaps just a tragic accident.

wanted - Veritas honing guide / waterstones

Don, I'm not familiar with formula 409...don't think we have it over here, and no, it's not that I never do any cleaning, my wife hasn't heard of it either. What kind of product is it?

    Hand held circular saws...

The Makita 5704RK is currently on offer at Axminster for £95. I have one and although I only use it at home for sheet goods, it is a real pro quality piece of kit. Thoroughly recommended.

bessey v rutlands k body clamp?

Rutlands seem to stick the Dakota name on most things they sell. I ordered an Xtreme Xtension router collet extension which was tagged as a Dakota precision router extension collet on their web site. What I recieved was a genuine Router Technologies XX collet, made in the US of A. I can...

Very strange question from someone with limited knowledge..

Hi Matty, I think your first project should be to sort out your floor...it looks to be on a hell of a slope  I'll get me coat.

    Dakota Precision Collet Extension

I have also just taken delivery of a Dakota Precision XX from Rutlands. Ordered online at lunchtime on Friday and delivered on Saturday morning...Well Done Rutlands. It certainly looks like a substantial chunk of metal and well machined. I set it up this morning, as per the instruction sheet and...

    Tennon shoulders and bandsaws

I don't do a lot of M&Ts but my preferred method is to make the shoulder cuts on my table saw (Triton Workcentre) and then hand saw or bandsaw to cut the cheeks. I have tried using the router table to remove the waste but it is a lot more work (and dust). If a bandsaw can be set up to work...

    Mitre saw blade recommendations

I'm currently using one of the Axcalibur blades from Axminster on my DW703. I've mainly used it for skirtings and mouldings so far but the results are very good...nice clean cuts with little or no splintering...good value for money IMO.

    Bed Head advice sought.

DW, how about mounting the bedhead on the wall with a couple of sets of these. I've used them for heavy mirrors so they should be plenty strong enough. Wall chasers like this Metabo are a bit pricey for a one-off job. A bolster and lump hammer is the cheapest option or maybe a cheap grinder and...

Are all router cutter brands the same?

If you will be getting through a lot of bits you should seriously think about replacable tip cutters like Wealden's Versofix and Easitip cutters. The outlay is higher to start with but, as I said, if you get through a lot you will soon recover the cost.

    Router book

I have "Woodworking with the Router" by Bill Hylton and Fred Matlack. It has loads of information on Routers, bits, techniques etc. as well as plans and cutting lists for router tables (horizontal and vertical), jigs and a router-specific work bench. The book isn't exactly pocket sized for...

    Tool priority list...

In the power tool line I'd second a good hand-held circular saw, Makita, Bosch etc. and a 1/2" router...Trend, Dewalt etc. Then Google for "sawboard" which is a home made guide for your circular saw and router that will let you break down sheet material accurately and true up cut edges of boards...

Opinions sought re: drum sanding options

I have one of the Axminster bobbins that have been referred to in earlier posts and I think they are great value for money. I was lucky enough to get hold of a 1/3 hp induction motor, rated for continuous running, (rescued from a skip at work) with a 5/8" shaft. I simply mounted the motor on a...

    Nail gun help... anyone?

I agree with Richard, an air nailer will serve you much better than one of these little mains nailer/staplers. The Tacwise type are gutless and will struggle to punch a brad through even thin cladding. That said, you really need 16g or even a 15g nailer that can fire galvanised nails...which...

Building a tool collection from scratch

Another thing to budget for is a set of clamps/cramps (never quite sure which term to use). There is a world of choice out there from the Rolls Royce Besseys to cheap and cheerful F clamps. You need a range of sizes depending on what kind of projects you intend to tackle.
