I haven't used pocket hole joinery at all buy I thought you needed to use pan head or washer head screws to reduce the risk of the screw head pulling through the workpiece, which would be more likely with trumpet head screws. That may not be a big problem if you are using the pocket screws to...
In this thread I asked for advice on which router to buy. I started off leaning towards the Triton, partly because I already have a Triton Workcentre and partly because of glowing reports on this forum. I was quite surprised to get several negative comments about the reliability and build...
I just bought a Trend T11 router after much deliberation, to replace an old B&Q T-Tech one. Currently on offer from D&M tools for £239 with free 1/4" collet...I ordered at 2pm and it was delivered next morning. Not had a chance to use it a lot yet but so far it has performed very well. As a self...
I have the Veritas grinder jig and after faffing around with the angle setting thing that came with it I got myself the Tormek anglemaster. Very quick and easy to use and easy to reproduce bevel angles. It is made to work with the larger Tormek grinding wheels (8" or 10") so a 6" high speed...
I've been thinking about a horizontal RT for a while...there is a detailed plan in "Woodworking with the router", where I got the plan for my standard RT. They are supposed to be very good for mortise and tenon work too. Another of those jobs that is just waiting on the TUIT to arrive.
I currently use a piece of MDF smeared with Autosol, which works well. I do have a couple of old leather belts lying in the workshop that I have been thinking of making into strops...just waiting for the TUIT to arrive.
Nice workshop Tom,
I'm not jealous, I'm not jealous, I'm not jealous!
If I had a workshop that size I'd probably still fill it with crap until I was struggling to find enough space to plant my feet.
I have used the vertical style panel raiser (Axminster Perform brand) with no problems. You do need a fairly tall fence, 150 mm or more and a trap fence to stop the bottom of the panel from moving away from the main fence. As already said, you can't do arched panels with a vertical bit but they...
If I do mortices on the drill press I use a Forstner bit and do lots of overlapping holes. All that is needed is to square off the corners with a sharp chisel. much like you do if you cut the mortices with a router. You can, of course round the edges of the tenon instead of squaring the mortice.
Chippy, I have almost the same set up as you. My "grid" comprises a couple of 4'x6"x2" held in the multi-stands and notched to take 3 off 8'x 4"x2". I drilled dog holes in the 6x2s to take a couple of 3/4" dowels, so that I can tilt the whole grid to an almost vertical position and load a full...
I finally found the T11 on the D&M site. Strangely, it isn't listed in the "Routers and Accessories" section but I found it under special offers. £239 including free 1/4" collet. That is the same as Axminster's regular price for the DW625 and £50 cheaper than their price for the T11 itself. I...
Thanks Erik, I've had a look at the D&M web site and I can only see the T10 on offer at that sort of price (no T11 at all) and I don't think the T10 has the through table adjustment facility.
Hi Dylan, welcome to the forum and thanks for your input.
Adam, I didn't put the big Makita on my original list as it was even more expensive than the Trend and as far as I can see, it doesn't have above the table adjustment facilities. I already have a Makita circular saw and cordless drill...
Freuds seem to be relatively rare compared with Trend/Dewalt/Triton, which is one reason why I am less keen on them. The through-the-table height adjustment does make the 3000 interesting though, despite the lack of availability. What is the story with height adjustment with the DW625, when...
Thanks for the replies so far guys. The negative comments on the Triton are a little surprising as lots of people have praised them in the past. However this is exactly why I posted the question...I'd rather hear the negative side of a piece of kit before I buy than to have people say "I could...
I take it that the DW625 doesn't have through-the-table height adjustment then? I know that the Triton has a rack and pinion height adjustment with a fine adjuster too so maybe that narrows it down. I have been using Woodrat plunge bars on the old Trend-Tech and that worked pretty well but I...
