    NailGun for workshop build

A PCL connector only costs a couple of quid and it is a good idea to put on a swivelling one like this (ok, four quid) as it gives much more manoeuvrability.

    Stanley 51&52 Shooting Board

Hi Buzzy Bee, if you haven't already seen it have a look here for some good info on the #51/#52 combo.

    Nail guns and compressors

The main problem I've found with combined nailer/staplers is that the "hammer" is 5 - 6 mm wide, to enable it to drive the narrow crown staples. This can leave a fair sized mark on the wood. It's not always a problem...only when the brads are in an area that will show. It might also be my cheap...

I can second the Trend Air Ace, which has a visor as an optional extra (well worth the money IMHO).

    Which mini powerdriver/drill ?

I bought the IXO a few weeks ago and I think it is ok, but (there is always a but) there is no easy way to use it as a drill. You can fit a quick change type drill bit (with a hex shaft) and drill a hole but the drill bit is not secured in the bit holder so it is difficult to get it out again...

    Lie-Nielsen Chisels-anyone else having problems?

You don't need to work in a lab or to use trig, the point I was making is that you don't need to measure the actual bevel to know what the angle is. And yes, the point of a honing guide is to constrain the angle (here we go again). If the wheel of the guide stays in contact with the stone you...

    Grinding wheels

I haven't seen rubber wheels but you can get hard felt wheels, either flat edge or profiled for honing/stropping. You can even make one out of MDF and load it with honing compound. I made an MDF wheel, which I mounted in my drill press, and loaded it with Autosol chrome polish. It will certainly...

    Lie-Nielsen Chisels-anyone else having problems?

If you use a honing guide the angle is dictated by the geometry of the jig. The height of the chisel back above the stone is fixed by the jig and the other two sides of the triangle are dictated by how far the blade projects through the guide. The angle is determined by simple...

    Wooden planes. Why?

There is some info on how I trued the sole of my 22" jointer here. I used a combination of planing and abrasives in a float glass surface.

    second hand tools

Don't know the area, so I can't help there but I've found Ebay to be a good source of second hand planes. As ever with Ebay, it's buyer beware but there are bargains to be had. I got a Stanley No. 4 1/2 for a couple of pounds plus p&p. You do need to be patient and don't bid over the odds. It...

Trying to source t-track to fit to own made router table

Hi Neil, welcome to the forum. Sorry I can't help with the T-track but I'm sure others will be along soon with suggestions. FWIW, some people don't like mitre slots on a router table. There is just so much dust and chippings about that they clog up very easily. I've made jigs that just run...

    screws for chipboard and mdf

Glues don't work well with MFC unless you also use dowels or biscuits. I've found buscuits together with the black Powerdrive screws from Screwfix to give really solid joints.

Help with Tooling advice for Kitchen project.

I have used biscuits (flat dowels) and carcass screws to assemble my cabinets. I used 3 biscuits per side, glued with waterproof PVA glue (D3) with screws between the biscuits. Where the screw heads will be seen you can either use little plastic caps to cover them (looks naff) or a decorative...

Help with Tooling advice for Kitchen project.

Roger, you type quicker than me. How do the festool blades hold up when cutting MFC. Even with good quality TCT blades in my Triton Workcentre my blade is effectively blunt after cutting the panels from one 8' x 4' sheet :( .

Help with Tooling advice for Kitchen project.

Melamine faced chipboard (MFC) is commonly used because it is cheaper than good quality birch plywood and it is effectively pre-finished. I am currently refitting my kitchen using MFC for the cabinets and I have found it to be very hard on tools, especially circular saw blades and router bits...

    SOME NEW ITEM'S

Very nice chairs Jonathan. Old floor boards never looked so good. Did you see the New Yankee Workshop show where Norm visited the couple who made and "distressed" Windsor chairs? there were lots of coats of dye, paint and lacquer with lots of sanding and scraping in between. The chairs looked...
