    Cheap HVLP Spraygun

I like mine a lot. Only used it for water-based finishes so far but it performs very well. I'm a novice sprayer and found it easy to set up and adjust. Be aware though that B&Q appear to have discontinued it and it may be difficult to get hold of one.

    Combed Joint

For the router table a finger jointbit might fit the bill. Mainly used for end grain to end grain joints as seen in IK*A furniture.

Take your friends to the workshop...

Pekka, You are very generous. Not only do your friends get good, hand-made pieces of furniture they may also pick up a little of your skill and best of all the sense of satisfaction that comes from knowing "I made that" which I think is what motivates all of us. As I started reading this...

    Funny Name....

Some of my veterinary friends tell of a colleague who's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Cock, saw fit to call their son Everard. Poor chap had absolutely no sense of humour about it...well you wouldn't after a lifetime of sniggering would you.

    216mm 80 tooth blade spare

Keith, what is the tooth pattern of the blade, ATB, Triple chip? It would go in my Triton Workcentre and I am looking for a blade to cut Melamine faced chipboard.

    Birch Plywood Blade

Sorry, that should be 235 mm (9.25") .

    Birch Plywood Blade

I'm also interested in trying a Wealden blade, a triple chip for cutting MFC in my case. I know that Wealden router bits are pretty good but I have no experience of their saw blades. Any Wealden users out there who care to share their experience? I have looked at Freud/CMT but have found it...

    Unexpected gift

Cheap is good but how do they perform...no point having three if they are all rubbish.

    A sticky question

1). It sounds like your Evo-Stick PVA is just a standard PVA wood glue (not suitable for outdoor applications). As long as it hasn't been exposed to temperatures below about 5 degrees C it should be ok. If it has it will probably have separated a bit (curds and whey?) and should be discarded...

    just checking

 Brilliant! it reminded me of the spoof Harry Enfield did a few years ago. It was one of the "Mr Cholmondley-Warner & Grayson" sketches entitled, "Women, Know your limits".

Availability of the B&Q HVLP Sprayer

I bought one of these before Christmas (B&Q Warehouse, Edinburgh), but the last time I was in the shelves were clear. Pity they are discontinuing it as it is a great piece of kit for the money.

    Sticking glass to mdf?

A 15 mm slab of glass isn't going to flex much sitting on your bench top. I have a 10 mm piece that is approx. 150 x 450 and that is very stiff. An MDF backer is probably a good idea though, if only to protect the corners. In the past I have tried "No More Nails" adhesive (rubbish) and would...

    Yankee screwdrivers & Hex Bits

I made my own hex bit adaptor out of a spare magnetic bit holder. I don't have a lathe so I chucked the bit holder in my drill press, with the hex shaft exposed and simply rounded it to the right diameter with a file. I cut the retaining notch and semicircular drive section on the end with a...

    Is this a new idea?

How do you compensate for the stone getting thinner as it wears (assuming water stone here)? I suspect there are better already on the market eg Veritas Mk II or even the Eclipse and its clones. I think I can hear mutterings in the background about freehand sharpening...I'll get me coat.

Interesting pieces of furniture - 11

The " table cloth table" brought an old nursery rhyme to mind... There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile. He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile. He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse, and they all lived together in a crooked...

What do you do for a living then?

Another scientist here, I'm afraid. I have a PhD. in immunology and parasitology from Edinburgh Uni. and work on developing vaccines to protect livestock against gut worm infections. I did woodwork at school up to Higher level (roughly A level equivalent) in the early '70s and have had an...
