Spring comes later up here so I won't have my bath for another couple of weeks yet
Nice work, it shows that the skill of the craftsman is more important than the materials. =D>
1) White spirit
2) wax
3) probably a gimmick, but I've not used one.
4) There are a few Bandsaw books about, The one by Lonnie Bird comes to mind.
5) How big is the motor, I'd have thought 13A would be ok for up to 3kW
6) I'd probably have gone for the general forum but here is ok for me. The...
Congratulations on the quick sale.
In Scotland the system is quite different. We set a price and ask for "offers over". The current going rate around here is in the range of 25 - 40% over that price. When the sellers have enough notes of interest from prospective buyers they set a closing date...
I didn't make the NYW table, I went for the plan in the Hylton and Matlack book "Woodworking with the router", because I already had the book. It looks pretty similar to Norm's one though. The main cabinet parts were all cut from one sheet of 18 mm birch ply but I also needed some 6 mm ply for...
My local Halfords sells compressors and air tools as well as a range of accessories including air line fittings and oil. Probably not the cheapest or the best but handy if you need something in a hurry.
I think that NuTool are a bit like the cheap Ferm ones that Screwfix sell. Some people get them and they get good results and others think they are a pile of cr*p. This is probably down to 1) variability from tool to tool with little or no QC at the factory and 2) the experience and expectations...
At £90 you are more than half way to the cost of the smaller Tormek, if you want to get into powered sharpening. On the other hand, I use a cheap (£10), high speed grinder to re-grind primary bevels (not needed often) and water stones for honing.
Derek, a thing of beauty indeed. I've just been reading Philly's write up of making a laminated Jack, so I'm beginning to understand the woodwork involved. I'm also keen to hear about the metal working side of the project. Brilliant work...
Just a final post on this thread to say thanks again Keith. The blade arrived in the post today and it will fit my saw perfectly for fine cross-cut work.
I got a Stanley #9 1/2 off Ebay for about £12 and all I have ever had to do to it was hone the blade. It is definitely the most used plane I have. I originally started out looking for a low angle #60 1/2 but even second hand they seem to go for silly money (£45 - £50). If and when I add a low...
Another useful jig Niki. I made a smaller version of the sled because my router is set nearer the front of the table and I added a toggle clamp as a hold-down. It works well as a tenoning jig. Like John though, I am not happy about using super glue. I have never found it to be very "super". I...
Old jigsaw/hacksaw blades ore often used to make small blades, for marking knives and the like. Could a bit of one of these be ground and shaped to fit?
