    a diagonal laminate box.

DW, for ripping narrow strips you want a push shoe like the one Noel showed in thispost. I made one following his advice and it works a treat on my Triton.

Stylish ledge and brace door design

I thought that this was going to be the first in the "How to Make" series  I'm not sure I care for the look of the door. As you point out it looks like some sort of cosmetic overlay, probably more difficult and expensive to make than a traditional ledged and braced door.

Anyone interested in how to make a door or window......

I'd like to sign up as another who is interested in the process of door and window making. I've done some frame and panel doors for kitchen units but nothing on a bigger scale. Always willing to learn and I greatly appreciate people who make a living doing this sort of thing taking the time to...

    Double M&T Joints

A Domino is similar in use to a biscuit joiner, but uses a moving drill rather than a rotating blade. The name comes from the domino-shaped loose tenons that fit the sockets that the machine drills.

    3" engineer's vice big enough?

I'd probably go with a 4" vice but a 3 incher would do all that you describe above. I mounted my engineer's vice (old, second hand) on a board that can be clamped in the woodworking vice when I need to do some metal bashing and it stores on the floor under the bench when I need a flat work area.

Why does Norm (or anyone) use a TS tenoning jig?

I've also used the technique of nibbling the waste away on all the faces of the tenon. The down side for me is that it generates lots of sawdust and needs multiple passes over an unguarded saw blade (table saw in my case), increasing the danger to me and also increasing wear on the saw. M&Ts...

Portable spray booth folds to 1.2x2.4x0.3m for storage

This looks good. I've been spraying with polythene dust sheet draped down the wall and over my workbench...far from ideal.

    Workshop intercom system

My wife bought a set of these walkie-talkies for me last Christmas but, as often as not I forget to take one out with me of forget to turn it on (accidentally, of course) .

    Biscuit jointer cutter for routers

Biscuit cutters for the router usually come with three different sizes of bearing to adjust the depth of cut. The router solution only works for edges or near edges. The won't do biscuit joints mid-board for shelves in a tall unit for example. Having bought such a cutter for my router, I quickly...

    Aluminium? Cast iron? Gimme rocks.......

You get a superb edge on freshly broken glass. I used to use glass knives for cutting tissue sections for the electron microscope. The sections were around 5 Angstroms (50 nanometres) thick. Not a very durable edge though, easily chipped and, because glass is technically a liquid, the edge would...

    tablesaw blades

Wealdendo blades to fit a 5/8" arbour. Good quality too. I have one of their triple chip blades for cutting melamine...best I've used, though not cheap. I've also found regular cleaning of the blade to remove resin/crud build-up to be very helpful, especially when working with man-made boards...

How to check the balance of a new chisel?

About ten or twelve years ago I was in town with the kids watching some of the "street theatre" that goes along with the Edinburgh festival. First thing I know, the chain saw juggling guy says "you look like a good sport" and drags me into the middle of a circle of about 50 people. Not wanting...

    Shooting boards and senior moments

I've recently made a shooting board and I screwed the fence in place because I felt it gave me more chance to get it square, which is the whole point of a shooting board. I think I'd worry that the MDF would deform as the wedge was knocked in and out. Let us know how it works in practice, it's...

primer for plain MDF, is it actually required?

I've recently been spraying MDF and if you don't seal it it will soak up the paint like a sponge. I seal cut edges with PVA diluted 5:1 (PVA:water) before the primer.

Triton cricular saws going cheap in B&Q

I have the Triton saw in my Workcentre and it is great. I initially used a 190 mm Makita, which was fine but the depth of cut was very limited. The Triton saw is very powerful and has cut everything I have thrown at it with ease. And, because it is designed to go in the Workcentre, it is very...

Beading, beaded MDF for cabinet backs...

I haven't tried this but keeping each pass exactly parallel to the last must be quite a challenge, especially for a long run like a bookcase back. I guess the main benefit, if you can get it right is that you can make a unique pattern not available commercially.
