Am I wasting my time ???

 If that's proceeding gently I'd hate to see you in a hurry

New Fence and Gate - WIP

You're welcome, always a pleasure to help someone else spend their money. Seriously though, Wealden are very good and the cutters I've had from them have been great value for money.

New Fence and Gate - WIP

Wayne, have a look at Wealden, they do good quality router bits at reasonable prices, they deliver very quickly and usually P&P free.

TS motor - what's this bit for ?

It looks like a grease nipple to me, like most bearings used to have.

    HVLP sprayers

The link to pentagon direct is odd, it flashes up the Earlex sprayer and immediately jumps to another page with no way to go back to the item. I have the B&Q Performance Power one that was reviewed on here (by Philly?), which only cost £50. Sadly they are no longer available. If you are going to...

who can help me with my rip fence ?

Sorry, can't see the pics. The expensive answer is probably the Incratablesaw fence, which is reputedly very good. ps. Just checked Rutlandswebsite and I was right about the price, £350

    Bandsaw for sale

Thanks Dick and Bob, I don't think I'll be going down the three phase motor route, just too expensive. I do have a couple of old !/2 hp induction motors in the workshop and a few pulleys of various sizes but both motors are 1425 rpm so I couldn't gear down to a slow enough speed for metal but...

    Bandsaw for sale

Thanks Bob, I hadn't even got round to thinking about cutting anything other than wood. The saw is incredibly strongly built so I hope the motor bearing is up to the same standard. I did have a quick look at the Dragon Ebay shop earlier and I will give them a call. I'm thinking about a 6 mm x 4...

    Bandsaw for sale

Just before this thread disappears down the road in the back of a jeep I thought I'd post to say that I bought the Wilmac bandsaw from Dominic...cheers mate, nice doing business with you. I have to say it is quite a piece of kit. I still can't believe how heavy it is. This is a 12" bench top saw...

    Solar Power for the Workshop??

One problem is that you are most likely to be using your machinery during the hours of daylight and solar panels won't provide much charge when the sun is low in the sky (early morning and evening) or on dull, rainy days and none at night (obviously). A wind turbine would work night and day as...

    Thumb screws

I think it was Derek Cohen who posted a method for making knurled screws. It involved grinding down a knurled plumbing fitting and epoxying the ring around the bolt head. He was using them on plane lever caps IIRC.

Setting and Sharpening a Spoke Shave

There is a Stanley #53 currently for sale on Ebay for about £13 inc p&p. Of course it will go up in price now that I have posted the info on here (I'm not the seller by the way, just trying to help).

    My piggy bank

Chris, that is brilliant, where did you find it? A bank like that would suit me perfectly as I never seem to have anything to feed it.

    mitre trimmers

Pete, that is an absolute beast! Have you ever had to sharpen the knives and if so, how did you do it?

    Bandsaw for sale

It looks a lot more substantial than my little three wheel Burgess BK1, so I might be interested. I do have a couple of questions. What sort of depth of cut does it have? You also said that it needs some work...what specifically and is it do-able by someone with limited metalworking skills or...

    WTF?

    folding plywood table.

Interesting design, sort of torsion box with foam filler. I also like the carbon fibre detail. How rigid are the panels made this way?

    Stripping an old 1930s door

Dipping is more likely to have an adverse effect on the integrity of the joints than using Nitromors or other stripping chemical that you paint on. I take it that you intend to use a clear finish on the door once it is stripped as you mention evenness of colour as being important. The timber...

Chaiwanese bandsaw upgrades - blade guides

I have a Burgess BK1 three wheeler, bought as part of a job lot from a retired woodwork teacher. It has "proper" blade guides (I think) with a bearings behind the blade and adjustable guide blocks at each side. It has a quiet running induction motor, which is good but the table is awful. Even...

    Measuring and marking

Axminster do rule stops for £4, and very useful they are. I use one with a 1m steel rule when laying out cuts on sheet goods. Set it once and mark, lay the sawboard on the marks and cut with the CS...very quick and easy.
