    Grinder question?

How long you can run the grinder for at a time, will depend on the rating of the motor. An industrial strength motor will be rated for continuous use ie. running all day long. Others may be rated to only run for 30% of the time...run 5 min off for 10 min to cool down. There should be a plate on...

    Band saw blade size.....

If it is a two wheel machine, you can work it out as follows: wheel diameter X pi + 2 X distance between wheel centres. example 12" wheels on 20" centres 3.14 X 12 = 37.7 + 40 + 77.7 therefore order a 78" blade from Dragon saws via Ebay.

    Rescued Record No5 1/2 Plane

Well done, the plane looks great. It is really satisfying to return an old tool to working order. I'm sure there are plenty more years service in it. I'd treat the tote and front knob with a few coats of BLO.

    workshop refurb

I'd go with 18 mm ply for sheeting the walls, if possible on your budget. That way you can put cupboards, tool holders etc. wherever you like, without bothering about where the studs are. Also, plasterboard in a workshop is just asking to get dinged, I know it would in mine.

Dovetail Saw rework - advice wanted

The saw blade shouldn't be too hard to file, after all that's how you will cut the teeth and sharpen them in the future. I'm not talking about power grinding, so there should be no excessive heat produced. Proper saws aren't like the induction hardened "hardpoint" saws, the steel can be worked...

Looking for advice on a Mitre Saw

B&Q have been selling Dewalt 703 mitre saws for £169 for a while now. It is a little over your budget, but a good saw for the money IMO. I bought one at the end of last year and have been well pleased with it. Easy to adjust for spot on square cuts and pretty good cutting capacity. Stock blade...

Dovetail Saw rework - advice wanted

I know nothing about saw sharpening beyond what I remember from school woodwork class almost 40 years ago, but I would have thought using a guillotine was a very bad idea. The potential for distorting the blade would be huge. Better to grind the teeth down with a mill file or the like.

    router failure in router tables

Hi and welcome to the forum. I think what you have just described is a spindle moulder. As for routers, the Triton ones are specifically designed for table use, with air vents that face downwards when the router is inverted in the table. HTH.

    Horse Mounting Block

If the guy selling on Ebay can ask (and get, I'm sure) £145 for a plywood box, I don't see why you shouldn't ask £100 (or more) for something better.

    Plywood

I get the impression that the OP is working in a pro workshop i.e. he is the guy who machines your parts for you. After all, ten 10' x 5' sheets of ply a day is not that common for a DIYer, is it.

    Horse Mounting Block

Tim, I think you're right, these horsey people must have loadsa money. A quick search found this on Ebay for £145, plus another £50 to " personalise it. It may be difficult to charge what something's really worth when making for friends but it is their word-of-mouth recommendations that will get...

    Horse Mounting Block

If you are making a few it would be a good excuse to buy a new :tool: (as if any of us need an excuse). You never know, this could be the start of a nice little side line for you. Will you deliver them for free or will the carriage be extra

    Plywood

Mine is even simpler than that Tom. I drilled a 1" hole near one end of my piece of ply and fitted the broom handle into that, held with a wedge. On the opposite end and opposite side I added the ledge (glue and screws), made from 3/4" ply. This is where a picture would make it clearer, but you...

    Plywood

I mabe a panel carrier out of a strip of 1/2" ply, 4" wide by about 18" long. The handle is a short length of 1" dia broom handle, fitted through a hole in the ply and there is a 1" ledge at the bottom end to rest the panel on. It is basically a home made version of this or this. With the...

It appears that I am 53 going on 34 (I got 120 on my first two attempts because I didn't read the instructions properly...the impetuousness of youth  ).
