    A Happy Easter Bunny ;o)

  Indeed L/W, the UK HQ is in your neck of the woods ! ... But for my sins, I will be still up here, working from the Aberdeen office. --I was there last week, and very impressed by the factory and 'setup'. Its part of a huge US Based Multi-disciplined conglomerate ( as are the...

Mahogany Window Sills & Facings etc...

Hi. I was wondering if I might ask for some advice ... We're just about to get new windows in, and the sills and finishings / facings inside are to be mahogany.. I'd like to keep them 'au-naturale' as opposed to painting them, and am at a bit of a loss as to what would be the best finish to...

    Spalted Elm FInish?

Not that I'm very experienced Alie.. but did a Platter in elm not long ago and finished that with Liberon Finishing Oil. Quite glossy, but it suited the piece. ( had 4 or 5 coats if I recall ) Wouldn't have considered waxing it or anything else... it was screaming out 'oil me, oil me'. HTH...

    Hoover problems AGAIN!!

Henry. Got one in 1986 and its still suckin' like a $50 dollar Hook*r. Fantastic machine. Cost the same now today, as it did in '86 too .. not many products you can say that about. When I was servicing Oil fired burners.. that was the hoover of choice too. You can abuse it like you'd spank a...

    anyone backpacked in italy recently...?

Not 'Backpacked' Stewart, but been there many times... Siena and San Gimignano are stunning. Always find Pisa a bit disappointing, save from the Tower, Fiorentina is great, but a lot of beggars / pickpockets etc ... Monte Riggioni is a lovely walled hilltop village ... Personally, I think Siena...

    Designing down

Agree with the point made earlier .. as 'consumers' we're as much to blame as anyone... Always trying to drive the price down, there are very few areas left now, where we're prepared to pay for the quality of a specific item. The old supermarket analogy works ... let Tesco into your town, as...

    Competition

I like the idea of Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced too... Where to draw the lines of demarkation would be interesting... one may have been turning 5 years, but only done 10 pieces of work in that time... Perhaps it can be 'quantified' into these groupings by the number of pieces an...

    Competition

Fully understand and appreciate Jason's thought process there... and take his point. Personally however, I'd not enter the main competition for a few reasons.. principally : Our pieces as turners tend to be 'weekend' projects done from start to finish in one or two days.. as opposed to...

    A Happy Easter Bunny ;o)

I'm a happy Bunny this easter.. ( well, a week after easter ... ) Having been really unsettled in my work, I've been offered a new job as Business Development Manager for a really nice worldwide company. :D I've only been in my current job for a year .. they make great products, are...

Exactly ! I personally wouldn't dream of the 'other one' ... but amongst ourselves, I'd feel comfortable enough to enter my rubbish in our 'own little world' here, as I believe something constructive would come of it by way of feedback from the experienced guys, and seeing other turnings is...

    Competition

Mentioned it a month or two back Tom .... the idea didn't seem to 'set the heather on fire' at the time, and it fell a bit flat.... Which is a shame cause I think it'd be a great idea. ... for fun and 'braggin rights' kind of thing.. Hopefully this may kick it back into life... ( the idea I...
