    which sand paper?

The box of strips from Axi' is not the best Rob, too stiff as you say. Their J Flex rolls are good quality, nice and flexible and consistent grit. Richard Findlay supplies one of the Rhino products and I find them the best for me personally, flexible, consistent grit and long lasting, he uses...

Record DS300 12" disc sander any good?

Yes, 60 grit is for rapid stock removal and rough shaping, if you want to fine tune mitres and such like I would probably be trying 180 or maybe even 240 ? I tend to use 120 as a good all round grit. Cheers, Paul

Record DS300 12" disc sander any good?

It might be useful to know also that the speed of rotation of the abrasive will be greatest at the outside edge of the disk and progressively slower towards the centre, and the difference is a bit more noticable on a larger disc such as the 12". Cheers, Paul

    Sanding Strips

I use a strip of wood with notches cut into it on the table saw, and magnets glued into recesses underneath, and leave it on the lathe or control box within easy reach. Sanding strips are just placed into the notches running in ascending or decending grit size and replaced after use and the next...

Buying timber - What does lace mean?

Lacewood is generally London Plane I believe, cut (quarter sawn ?) to reveal the lace type visual effect of the grain. Not sure if that is what you are seeing though ? Cheers, Paul
