Axminster Basingstoke Store - Boxing Day 10% Off

Just pootled off down the road to the Basingstoke store, having had a couple of emails to alert me to the Boxing Day special offer at this store only of "10% off everything". Only thing is, it turns out it's not everything, it doesn't include anything that is already on offer, so be aware if...

    Chainsaw

Husqvarna and Stihl are the popular makes amongst the professionals, nothing much to choose between them really, pretty much personal preference at the end of the day, although if you have a local dealer for one of them then that probably helps decide as you will need spares and maintenance from...

    A simple garden chainsaw mill

Not sure what you mean Richard ? I'm meaning the depth of cut of the teeth which is controlled by the depth of the limiters behind the teeth. The angle of the cutting edge of each tooth is something different, and yes, filing them more square or square can help the efficiency when rip cutting...

    Spalted oak bowl

Try a second bowl gouge ground to a steeper angle bevel for tidying up the bottom of the inside. The steeper angle allows you to keep the bevel rubbing on the bottom without the gouge or handle fouling the sides of the bowl so much. And/or a heavy scraper used with a light touch and resharpened...

    A simple garden chainsaw mill

Thanks for posting the video up Col, works great in practice. As Grayorm mentioned, tap a wedge or two into the starting end of the cut as you get to around a third or quarter of the distance left and it will take the pressure off the chainsaw bar and make it easier for you to push towards the...

    Coronet lathe and other things

I usually try stuff on here first knowing it will generally go to a good home with someone I kind of know ! Also no fees involved of course, except paypal as I prefer to use that. If stuff doesn't sell here quite quickly though, say a few days, I just move it to ebay or gumtree etc, no point...

    Help

I've been getting CA glue from Toolstation the last few years, haven't checked recently but I think at was two to three quid for 50ml bottles, thin, medium and thick available, and was the best value I could find and seemed decent quality. Cheers, Paul

    WH hand-stitched rasps

I've got a few of the WH ones and they do the job fine, removing wood reasonably easily and quickly. Although this looks very crude and reminiscent of the dreaded old surforms, it's neither and is extremely effective and capable of gross removal of wood or finer smoothing...

    Storing dried timber planks

I think I'd better not try that approach or I'll need to start a new thread about setting up home in a shed  Thanks for the detailed information Richard, very helpful indeed. Cheers, Paul

    Storing dried timber planks

I just knew it was a mistake leaving any behind with you Paul [-X  Occurred to me that I could take it out of stick and bundle a few planks together at a time with pallet shrink wrap, then easier to store and shouldn't I guess be affected by any moisture changes. I'll inspect it more...

    Storing dried timber planks

Makes sense Chas, I do like to worry too much  So in stick or out of stick then ?!! Would take up less space, which is a consideration, if not in stick ? Cheers, Paul

    Holdfast for £49

Wouldn't think any normal gas torch would get close to getting enough heat into 20mm bar to make it workable ? I tried with 10mm bar for a different application and got nowhere with it, but was able to bend it cold and with a big hammer, unlikely on the 20mm stuff ! Cheers, Paul
