    Excali EX 21, update one

Hi Andy. So pleased you eventually got a foot switch sorted out, it's so much more convenient. I hate it when companies don't reply to e-mails. I recently sent an e-mail off to a company and they did not bother to reply so I sent them another e-mail asking if they could give me a quote on...

    Challenge

I had a very profitable and interesting craft fair yesterday. Sold lots of different items and at the end of the day had a dozen orders or so. One order was for two no parking signs, never had an order for these before, one order was for a wedding plaque, and i get lots of these. I had the usual...

    first ever scroll saw attempt

Regardless of what machines you have for shaping and sanding there is nothing to beat the final sanding by hand, even as fine as using 400 grit abrasive. Brian will be able to throw a bit more light on this as he is very much into intarsia whereas most things I make are with single pieces of...

    hegner multicut 2

I think Phil has hit the nail on the head, I think you may have the larger clamps, whch are for a number 9 blade and upwards and not many of us use blades that course. I think the clamp with the smaller gap is the 0.5. I have quite a few of these and I use number 7 blades and smaller, a lot...

    Fly fishing question

I like the airflo ridge lines, they are not the most expensive but I find them excellent. I only fish with nymphs with a 10ft 6-7 rod the the airflow floaters do everything i want them to do. I also tend to use very long leaders in order to fish the nymphs at various depths. Hope this helps.

    Happiness

Re-the dark wood. I was talking with my wood supplier the other day and I ordered Oak, Iroko, Maple and some Beech and as usual we got talking about different kinds of wood and he mentioned he had some Wenge. Although I had heard of this species I had never actually seen it in the flesh and the...

    Happiness

I mentioned the other day how disappointed I was with last Saturdays craft fair at a huge event that attracted thousands. On Tuesday I attened my normal craft fair and ended the day with £426. The day went really well and was one of the most interesting as well in more ways than one. Soon after...

    disappointed

Ardenwoodcraft. I do not take credit card payments but some of the other stall holders do at my regular craft fair and only twice in recent years have I been asked to take a card payment and one of the other stall holders helps me with this when it crops up. Thanks to everyone else who made a...

    disappointed

Last Saturday I attended a huge agrigulture event. I had been looking forward to this particular event for some months. I knew that there wpould be a lot of people there as there were so many attractions. There were lots of horsey events taking place throughout the day, there were birds of prey...

    font ideas?

Nothing wrong with that font Gill, there are hundreds available and it's always difficult choosing the one we like the most. What I have found in the past when designing various things is that I make what appeals to me and now and again I find that the customers just don't like them, they do...

Biting the bullet - Ex 21

Hi Andy, first of all congratulations on your birthday and on getting your hands on the Excalibur. Looking at the photos it does look an attractive machine and different looking to the one I had. I hope it gives you many years of enjoyable service. It's a shame about the foot switch situation...

    Newbie question

Hi Gary. As Brian said, laminate flooring is okay to practice on but in practical terms it is not much good for anything else because of the hassle involved in getting an acceptable finish on it. On top of that the majority of laminate floring is made from MDF. You can buy solid wood flooring...

    Maswerk idea test

Hi John. The cat key racks had their first outing on Tuesday, sold one then and another two yesterday. I knew they would be a good seller.

    Maswerk idea test

A couple of weeks back we had a young lady turn up for her very first craft fair. Her parents had bught her a laser machine and she had made quite a variety of things including coasters, small crosses and hearts and small animals. In the coasters and several other items there were internal cut...

    Pyrography

The pyrography kit is now sold to Sue. I don't feel i gave up without giving it a fair crack of the whip. It's a bit like scroll sawing in a way. I have taught many people over the years and sadly there are some who will never make scroll saw artist while others are born to scroll. I spent a...

    what Jack for router table

This is my router table complete with Halfords scissor jack. The jack is screwed to the bench and in perfect alignment with the Makita router. Winding it up and down can be done with the fingers although I tend to use an old screwdriver. Very fine adjustments can be made and sometimes I may have...

    what Jack for router table

Hi Stooby. It was me that posted about the scissor jack. I got mine from Halfords and I think it was about £15. Make sure it has the hols in the base so you can screw it down. Also have a piece of rubber for where the router comes into contact with the scissor jack lifting plate. Axminster do a...

    At last

Sorry Andy. I had it in my head your name was Alex. I have round about 100 scroll saw books on my computer, all PDF. many deal with one type of scroll saw work such as box making, clocks, dinosaurs, Christmas decorations and so on. Other books are generalised in that they deal with a variety of...
