Looks like the heron/fish balance of power might be reversed in Jason's case! Cheers Tim

    Edge banders??

I've actually started using a craft knife to trim excess - put the panel on edge onto a sacrificial surface, extend the snap off blade to its maximum and then use the blade length to guide the cut along the edge. Only requires a bit of plane work if you are unlucky or just a sanding block. Its...

Hafele, Würth, Blum --- kitchen cabinet hardware which one?

I use Tandembox with the softclose mech incorporated - Woodfit code begins UBI. As John says - definitely worth going for trade pricing. Cheers Tim

    Uk Workshop Get Together

Mike This is where Philly lives (okay maybe not the island) but its a beeeautiful party of the world - so pack up a little overnight bag (two or twenty saws should be fine) and head on over.... http://www.bobleroi.co.uk/ScrapBook/PooleEtc/PooleDorsetD.html Cheers Tim

    Edge banders??

I'd be interested in this too. I'm doing a bunch of birch edging at the mo - trouble is trimming as much as application. The trimmers seem to work best on artificials. Cheers Tim

Hafele, Würth, Blum --- kitchen cabinet hardware which one?

I use Hafele for most of my hardware but I use Blum for soft close drawerslides - find them to be much higher quality than any that Hafele offer. Cheers Tim

Its a great idea - although I'm not sure I can make it - I think we are on hols. BTW I just noticed the sticky as I glanced up the page - doesn't really stand out - maybe make it a thread and then convert it later? Cheers Tim

crazy not do do some of your basic carpentry?

Paul's points are all well made but there is one factor that has been ignored by everyone so far: Having furniture made, decks added etc etc is not an emergency or necessary purchase; no one is held to ransome at 11pm on a saturday night over the cost of a kitchen (compare that with a burst...

crazy not do do some of your basic carpentry?

Firstly, It would be useful to have a bit more info about the deck before commenting. How big is it, what were the materials, was it supply and fit or fit only. Secondly, why is it that people always think that the figure paid = take home pay? For heaven's sake  I agree with a lot of...

    Chris Arnold

I've seen this guy's ads in F&C and he's pretty close to me - runs small courses etc. Has anyone been on any? Would be interested in feedback. Cheers Tim

How old is too old ?

Boomer Get a grip man! 39 is not old for just about anything. I'm 38 in about 2 weeks so not so different. I do cabinet making for a living and only made my first thing 6 years ago. I'm self taught but not too proud to ask for help. This forum has taught me loads. You just need to get...

    New kitchen project

I think the 'service gap' can be a real prob. Its no biggie to make the sink cabinet shallower to allow for pipes esp if the dw/ wm are sited close by so that all these pipes run behind two or three cabinets..... but then if you have a wide and deep sink, it can happily interfere with the...

    bluemotion drawer slides

No. Its the notches that need to be cut into the front of the drawer box to allow the orange clips to screw to the overlay drawer face. I'll try a drawing later if its not clear. In the meantime if you look at this link here my words might make a bit more sense...

    Corbels

I am making a kitchen (painted) for a client. I need to make three shelves (over a couple of windows and as a mantel for a range). They don't want overly ornate corbels but do want something with a bit of stature. It looks like I may therefore be better off making them since I can't find...
