    Purge Periodically

Dave Just tried this on a couple of files - sizes went from 2.2mb to 48kb! Couldn't work out why the files were so big because they weren't complicated. Seems the offender is the new styles option - I was playing around with various looks but reverted to default. After the purge 54 styles...

Buying sized timber - what to expect?

I don't accept any wastage when it comes to buying machined timber except in relation to lengths being slightly out of kilter with my cutting lists. I always specify MC and make it clear to the supplier what I am using it for - which helps if you need to make a vehement case. Cheers Tim

    Waste ? What waste ?

Nice one Dom. Hope the client doesn't find out that her birthday present is made from scrap  Cheers Tim

Buying sized timber - what to expect?

Not necessarily. Its all down to cost effectiveness - if I can make more money in less time by buying in planed timber then the 'expensiveness' is a red herring. Cheers Tim

Buying sized timber - what to expect?

Out of interest - who was the supplier? I had some machined tulip (about 100m) from John Boddys for a big job. It arrived badly packed and a lot of the lengths were warped in some way - I sent it back and ordered Beech from British Hardwoods which was marginally more but arrived...

    Daylight

What about a couple of veluxes? I know they are a bit pricy vs polycarbonate etc but they are so well built and the flashing so well constructed that there is no chance of a leak if put in properly. Plus you can open them to get some ventilation should you need. Cheers Tim

    Workshop question

Welcome to the forum. Personally, I would bite the bullet and start again. You have water coming in through the cracked floor and under the rotted walls. The T&G is unlikely insulated and corrugated roofing is top notch for being too cold in winter and too hot in summer. If the walls are...

    Fancy Dress

Thanks for the replies all. (except Roger S. - NB I know when your house will be empty!) Scott - I take it that it was a dull watch last night? The thunderbirds idea is very good indeed - with the Wombles/ Clangers as close second. NB My wife doesn't have to be part of a double act - I like...

    Flush Fitting Sliding Doors

Tinfoil - That's the one I thought it must be in the catalogue as well. However, it isn't really flush fitting - there's still a lip required to cover the top track so the door must be inset slightly. I suppose they mean that the doors can be flush with each other though. BTW by my...

    Fancy Dress

Got a friend's 40th coming up - the first one to tip over that milestone. Its fancy dress and the code is 70s film or TV star. Its likely to be a big thrash so am happy to put in some effort! I want suggestions - that don't just make you like an extra in The Sweeney or indeed Life on Mars and...

    Timber auction

In case folk don't know - there is a timber auction in Ledbury this Saturday. Mainly tools by the look of things - however a fair amount of the timber was Trevtheturner's so its been well looked after. Actually i imagine there will be quite a few of his tools there as well :( . I've got a...

    Jigsaw Advice

I would agree with you Paul for a lot of power tools eg sanders, drills etc but I think that cutting tools in particular are more to do with accuracy than anything else. A cheap jigsaw can obviously benefit from a good blade but it still needs the basic capability to do a reasonable and...

Painting the machined edges of MDF

I think anythings less messy than that - thats why I stuck with thickly mixed wall paper paste - there's probably not much betwwen them all I imagine - basically any easy seal method is what you are after. Cheers Tim
