    Interesting New SketchUp Application

Thanks Dave I have found that Kerkythea is very powerfu but probably more that I need for most customers/ jobs esp since it takes me an age to set up and render. Is this app much quicker to do the render/ effect? Cheers Tim

The beginning of a beautiful relationship?

So I'm back from Canada for a bit. The missus is now over there permanently, has started work and is loving it (phew!) I went over there for a week with the hope of finding the sort of property we wanted. We had been working with a real estate agent over there who is married to a woodworker...

    Decking

So he's expecting you to get down on your hands and knees with a router and clear the grooves on his deck? Apart from the fact that that will be hundreds of linear feet - whats wrong with a pressure washer? As has been said re treatment - unless you are going to reapply the oil at least once a...

    Fine Woodworking impressive customer service

I have subs with both FWW and Fine Homebuilding. They both expire around about now and I didn't want to renew at an international rate for two years when I will be able to buy a local sub for much less soon. However I didn't want to miss out on issues either. Explained the situation to their...

Can anyone recommend a good one? It doesn't need to be a radio as well. It needs to have a decent volume capability. Cheers Tim

Elektra Beckum HC260 - Should I buy? Advice Please...

Dean I have one of these (also for sale shortly) and its a good machine - I'll probably be asking around the smae figure for mine. Just a word of caution re it and your projects: It (like the others in its class) has shortish beds so if you are planning on using it to plane and thickness long...

    Walnut Crossbow stock

I built one at school when I was 14. Its downstairs somewhere although the string has disappeared. My parents had a fit and Dad decide to confiscate the firing mechanism - which I never saw again. Shame he didn't realise I had anticipated that and had made another set. Stock is Mahogany...

    Living in France.

We are about to move to Canada - the missus goes week after next and I follow a month later. I looked at the expat forums and occasionally still do - but only for the odd bit of info. The raeson I don't involve myself is that I decided that I didn't want to be an expat. It appears to me...

    Distinguishing Maple from Sycamore

Yeah - I know which boards are the ripple ones! Its the plain sycamore vs maple thats the issue. Cheers Tim

    Distinguishing Maple from Sycamore

Thanks all Normally I wouldn't worry but I have some very nice ripple sycamore boards which I want to use in a piece with the rest being normal sycamore and so I don't want to spoil the look (or waste the timber) by combining ripple sycamore with maple. Cheers Tim

    Distinguishing Maple from Sycamore

I tried that earlier and didn't get much discernible difference. I think I need to plane a bit off each board to tell though - the sawn surfaces are probably a bit too fibrous to see teh marks easily. Cheers Tim

    Distinguishing Maple from Sycamore

I have been going through my timber stocks prior to the move to see what I have , what I am going to try to persuade the mover's agent to let me take with me and what I need to sell or convert into furniture before we leave. I have realised that somewhere along the line I have mixed up some...
