Don't worry, Phil - they are really easy (easier than butts if you ask me) I use a simple jig like this: Two 30mm holes drilled using a forstner bit on the drill press, with the centres 1 1/4" apart for the Soss 203. Mark the centrelines too. Then remove the waste with a chisel. Screw on...

Yes, they work brilliantly. Very satisfying to use too! Once you have your stock prepared, you can make dowel at a rate of about 3m a minute... If you want very long stuff you'll have to be careful about whipping on the exit side - you can make an extra support for the dowel to go into, or...

Ian, I actually got 100 magnets from http://www.kjmagnetics.com in the states so theres no problem sourcing the magnets themselves! Would thoroughly reccomend these guys, by the way - cheaper and a much better range than over here and there were no problems re: posting to Ireland. Cheers, Neil
